Scared/Excited - Plastics Surgery
Well it is hard to believe that the time has come for me to shed the last remnants of my former self. Next Tuesday the 23rd I am going under the knife. I'm not too excited with it being so close to XMAS, but when the surgery is free (I've met my out of pocket max this year and insurance is totally paying for the whole $7000 - I couldn't put this off until next year because of the money). I am excited, but I am also very nervous about what is coming my way. Being a nurse is a blessing, but it is also troubling at times because I know too much medically. I know first hand what is coming pain wise. Having RNY surgery done is a piece of cake compared to this procedure (tummy tuck). I have taken care of my share of patients in the recovery room post plastics operations and trust me, lost of pain and aches. It is kind of bitter sweet, but I am looking forward to having the slimmed down stomach and no pouch - that will be worth all the pain I will be going through.
Anyway, wish me luck and I will definitely post progress report on my blog for all of you who are thinking about having this done in the future.

I think the pain is greatly exagerated. I had an open DS in 2006 and a LBL with an anchor cut and chest reduction (all at the same time)in 2008 and let me tell you the open DS was MUCH more painful and recovery was a lot more uncomfortable then the plastics. Not that recovery for the LBL was a walk in the park, but it wasn't that bad either.

Maybe, I'm the exception but what pain except the damm compression garment. I was off pain meds by Tuesday after surgery on friday. The only advice I have is buy two of those garments. One to wash and one to wear. This is the only painful part of the surgery for me. The damm thing eats into my butt, my legs and groin area. They need to put a bigger strip of elastic in the thing. That little bit allows the thing to slide. Put a 1 inch band or bigger in the legs and it would be more comfortable. Good Luck with your suregery and have a painless time!
