Steroids.

"There is know way I can refute you about it being stupid, it is..."

First off - I never used the word stupid - I just said it is risky.  I agree that Weight Loss Surgery is a risk too, but it's performed in a hospital by trained doctors with years of experience and expertise,  in a controlled , sterile and monitored environment with the best facilities and equipment, after the patient's physical and mental state has been evaluated and all risks have been taken into consideration.

"what we did was take a short cut to getting ourselves to a healthy lifestyle"

Oh contraire, my friend!  I did not have this surgery as a "short cut", but rather as a last resort to regain my health and my life!  I trained 5 to 6 days a week and was in top physical shape when I owned my gym, yet I had 5 heart attacks in 2002 at the age of 49.  According to the cardio specialists, it was due to genetics. I was put on 13 different medications and told not to do anything in the way of exercise or stress. My metabolism was slammed  hard from the combination of the meds and no exercise, and I literally blew up - I gained over 160 pounds, which compounded my health problems. I developed all sorts of medical issues - sleep apnea, congestive heart failure, severe edema, pre-diabetes - just to name a few.  After over 5 years of trying to get the weight under control,  I was told by my cardiologist and PCP that  their recommendation was to have WLS. It was, in their opinions, my last shot at trying to regain my health because the weight and associated co-morbidities it caused were going to kill me. They estimated that within 2 years or less I would have full-blown diabetes, more heart issues and possibly be dead. As they say " It don't take no rocket scientist to figure out that them odds ain't too good!"   So, after much research and thought, and discussion with my wife, I made up my mind to give myself my last chance at regaining my health - at least to the best of my and medical science's ability. THAT is the reason I had WLS - not as a "short cut", and not any reasons of personal vanity, but to LIVE! To be healthy enough to be able to walk, work, exercise, play ball with my grandkids, and enjoy life again, not simply just exist for however long I have left.

The only thing I was saying before is that taking steroids is RISKY in more ways than one.  It is risky from a legal standpoint, from a medical standpoint, from a mental standpoint, and from a personal health standpoint.  I was simply trying to caution you as to the potential risks involved and advise you to think about the possible consequences of using them.  But hey, we are all big boys, and it is up to each individual to make their own choices and decisions about this or any other issue. We are all here mainly for suupport, information, advise and insight concerning Weight Loss Surgery.

Whatever you choose to do, I wish you the best of luck and hope none of the potential problems happen to you.

If you went through everything so you would look better, then I believe you should have failed your psyc exam.  36 years old and you sound like an 18 year old punk.  Right now Your looks are more important to you than your health, but 20 years from now you will be kicking yourself for taking dumb chances like this.  No one on this board will even hint that they think this is a good idea.  You need to grow up.

I'm sure looking better for everyone on this board had absolutely nothing to do with their motivation for losing weight!..........you absolute moron!  if you want to talk about the problems involved with obeisity (blood pressure, heart disease, diabeties, joint and back problems, wiping your own ass, etc, etc) i can talk about those all day long.  I enjoy normal blood pressure, no meds, and can now wipe my ass with out a problem.  but guess what... I also enjoy looking good as well. i have been happily married for 15 years, hold an outstanding job, have great kids, (one I just competed in a running race with).  So dont make me out to be some kind of a desperate loser sitting in a corner at a high school dance!  I never asked for your or anyone elses permission to use a steroid.  i simply asked if any one who had this procedure had read or done it.  I'm sure no one on this board has ever drank to much...smoked to much... or anything else.  this is a board where you can come with a question and not be judged.  Ya want to tell be that you think I'm dumb for taking them (which I havnt yet), fine, otherwise you grow up and save your f_ckin judgements for yourself!!!!!!

My own personal opinion is this, if he can get it in a legitimate manner and takes it as prescribed for 6 weeks, then what's the problem? But if he has to get it from a "source" then he's risking buying a toxic substance or perhaps supporting a dealer who sells immorally (e.g. to minors or people who just don't have the sense to use the substances in a safe manner.)

Dave, this thread sure brings back memories of discussions I had on this subject hundreds of times when I owned my fitness center.  I agree that if prescribed , administered and monitored by a physician the chance of any problems is greatly reduced or even negated. However, finding a physician who will, or legally can, do this is gonna be a near impossibility without a viable medical need.

No doubt there are beneficial uses for anabolic steroids when given under the care of a physician. A couple of years ago I read an article about anabolic steroids (primarily testosterone enanthate and cypionate) being administered to AIDS patients in a study to see if the steroids could possibly slow or reverse the body wasting effects of AIDS. The article stated that  a large percentage of the patients experienced a slowing of muscle deterioration following the courses of steroids.  In a few cases, they reported actual muscle mass gains.  And of course, men with low natural testosterone levels can benefit from steroids, such as those suffering from testicle loss from disease, accidents, surgery, etc.

I believe that the use of steroids is not the problem, but rather the ABUSE of steroids.  Too often the layman mentality (especially with young teenage boys and uninformed gym rats) is that if 1 of something is good and productive, then 10 will be 10 times as good and productive. Not the case with steroids. Our bodies monitor our levels and production of hormones.  If an overage of testosterone is detected, the body will reduce its own production of natural testosterone. (That's why some of the elite "professional" bodybuilders have nads the size of grapes.)  So there is a definite need for the testosterone levels to be monitored to produce muscle growth and yet deter damage to the testicles as well as to the liver when anaboic steroids are used.  There is the issue of a balance that must be maintained between muscle building anabolic and masculizing androgenics that goes with steroid use. Also, the issue of the testosterone converting to estrogen  comes into play - one of these effects is gynomastia (commonly referred to as "b*tch  t*ts").

Personally, I believe that when the government stepped in and made the use of steroids illegal and imposed the regulations that exist today, they created a larger problem and a black market for steroids.  They are being sold out of car trunks by sleezebags who could care less about their "clients", who are often teenagers without a clue as to what they are doing.

I believe it would have been much better to have made it legal for qualified physicians to be able to administer steroids in their offices on an individual case by case basis. This would assure their use is as safe as possible and the risk of side effects and health problems are minimized.  But . . . that ain't the way it is.  I do find it somewhat ironic that in this country a man can decide he wants to be a woman and there is no problem, but if a man wants to be a more muscular, stronger man, it is against the law.  But, the law is the law and until it is amended or overturned that's how it is. As it stands now - steroids are illegal and anyone having them in their possession is subject to some serious legal problems.

I could go on, but I've rattled off too much already. I just hope everyone will read,   research, ask questions, and educate themselves all they can before making a major decision that can have lifelong consequences - whether it be WLS, steroid use, or whatever.

Again, I wish everyone the best of luck whatever decision they make.

What I can offer here is that I've done a few rounds myself of different substances while using whinny as the supplement, gained some mass, then eventually lost it.  Winny is VERY weak and not really going to do that much for you.  Plus you have the chance of painful tendon issues, etc.  If you're really serious about doing this, and you don't want to inject, go with Anavar.   More expensive but better results and no risk of gyno.

That said, your results will only be temporary.  And keep the cycle short for your liver's sake.  Also, if you have ANY blood pressure issues, don't go forward.

Just my opinion.
