Ice tea ????
I probably should tackle this in bama bobs information about "hydration"...but here is my question. Initially, I drank no caffeen whatsoever. Now 1 year out, I have found myself in love with ice tea sweatened with splenda...I'm drinkin the holy heck out of this stuff!
Will someone please say...thats a good choice. Something in the back of my mind says...if I enjoy it, it can't be good. Hell, I've even drinking this stuff at night in lieu of Long Island ice Teas!. I think I've always had to have an "oral fixation" and drinking constantly feels good....please someone give me positive confirmation!
thanks!
If you have a concern about the caffeine, you can make decaffeinated teas.
I have several teas that I really enjoy that are decaffeinated.
I myself drink a lot of tea, because I can't stand plain water.
I also drink a lot of crystal light, sobe lean and diet snapple.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
Iced tea and coffee!
I drink a BUNCH of both. I just make sure it's decaf most of the time and it's OK. I try to limit my caffeine to no more than 2 cups of coffee a day since according to my nutritionist caffeine actually contributes to dehydration, offsetting the benefits of the fluids from the tea or coffee. Lipton has a great decaf instant iced tea with lemon, but it's a little pricey. But last week I found that Publix has the same in their store brand at a little over 1/2 the price!

Iced tea is fine. No sweetener or calorie-free sweetener. All great. Drink it up.
Any clear fluid is fluid you need, and your kidneys don't know or care whether the water molecules come with little bits of tea flavorings, fruit flavorings, etc. Don't waste your time and energy over whether or not the caffeine you ingest is important. Unless you've got so much caffeine in your veins that you can't get to sleep, it's not going to be enough to worry about as far as "hydration" is concerned.

I was going to give you my answer, but really, Steve said it all. Non-caloric fluid is all the same to your body functions, and the old instructions about caffiene drinks not counting are simply not true. Your body doesn't care where the fluids come from and a lot of the research is showing that you would have to have a tremendous amount of caffienne to dehydrate your body.

Ditto to Lou's info. Most of the research I have read also concurs with that sentiment. You would have to drink lots of sodas or cups of coffee each day to run into problems with the dehydration issues, unless you work in a sweat box for a job. I think in the beginning of weightloss with the gastric bypass surgeries, many doctors and nutritionist tell you to avoid all of the caffeine = sodas, teas, and coffees because for many of us - those items were heavily laden with sugar = unnecessary carbs and calories = this is what got a lot of us into trouble to begin with - in conjunction with all of the fatty foods on top of the high calorie drinks.
I am maintaining my weightloss now, but I still like my diet soda, tea with splenda, and even coffee with splenda.
Again, do your own research to reach your own conclusions. I'm no medical doctor, these are my own opinions and experiences as they relate to an ordinary guy who has lost an ass load of weight to look good again.
Be good, Taz

thanks for all the input...I like the quote "ice tea is my new diet coke"....I usually stop off in the am with my kid to mcdonalds, get a $1.00 tea, drink it, refill it, drink it all day at work with a gallon of the stuff from kroger. I love the syrofoam container (cup) it keeps it cold all day. I think I like the ice!...still seems too good to be true!...baha hawww
