3 month post-op visit and a pffffftt
I had my 3 month post-op visit today, official weigh-in had me down just over 113 lbs (my 3 month anniversary was actually late last week). The nutritionist had good advice and validated that I'm on track with my diet (except for not enough veggies). But, she actually is concerned that I'm losing too fast so she is adding protein drinks to my diet every day to slow down the weight loss. I have mixed feelings about this because I've become addicted to results, but will not ignore the advice (begrudgingly).
So as a general question to the board, what are your protein targets per day? If you work out heavily, have you added to that target?
Thanks much....
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.
As far as the protein, I had to up my intake when I hit the weights regularly again. I drink 1 - 2 protein shakes a day. They are pre-mixed and contain 42 grams of protein each. I drink either 1 or 1/2 of a shake in the morning, 1/2 at lunch, 1/2 after workouts. I also mix a fruit punch flavored whey protein bullet (26 g) in my water bottle to sip during workouts. I personally think you have to increase the protein intake to 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 grams per pound of bodyweight when doing regular exercise, especially weight training.
(My nutritionist at Vandy agrees.)
Keep up the good work bro!
As for protein, my surgical group recommends 75-90 grams/day for men. Not giving advice there, just passing along what I'm told.

GOOD LUCK
During my 1st year post I lost 15# of muscle mass because I didn't get enough protien and simple carbs. You need to ballance your protien and simple carbs with your workouts or you will be in the same boat. You will lose the muscle that you use because your body can't rebuild it without the right building blocks. Heed your NUT'S advice, get the protien and the veggies or you will be sorry as I was. V8 juice is a great way to increase veggie intake.
