14 Days and counting down
I am having a hard time wrapping my mind about what I am about to go through. I feel like I am a kid sitting at the top of the slide watching all my friends slide down but wondering if I'll be the kid that gets killed in a horrible playground accident.
Did anybody get this close and go "what the h@ll am I about to do to myself"?

Yes, these are questions we see on a regular basis. I'm the rare exception who is normally very anxious about nearly everything, but looked at my RNY as my last hope and eagerly anticipated it. I can honestly say that I was calm before it.
I weighed 571 going in and had a BMI over 84. I was considered to be an extremely risky patient primarily because of my weight but also due to lymphedema in my legs. I don't know your comorbidities, but I don't think your BMI or starting weight is that much different from many of the men here.

Sam, BREAKING NEWS - You are NORMAL! We all had the same thoughts and fears before surgery. Being excited, nervous, and apprehensive all at the same time is just part of it. Attitude can play a big part in how successful you are. Just try to stay calm and positive. Focus on how much healthier and happier you will be once the surgery is over and you drop those pounds. Start planning and preparing for your life post-surgery. Make a list of things you want to accomplish once the weight is off. Follow your surgeon and nutritionist's plans to the letter. I'm sure you will be fine and will be on the Loser's Bench in no time! Hang in there buddy!
Sam,
Remember the Four Mantras of Life Post WLS:
1. Sip, sip, sip. Need your fluids.
2. Walk, walk, walk. Exercise and prevent clots.
3. Any problems - CALL YOUR DOCTOR!! 'nuff said.
4. Except in the Locker room - Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!! You may find yourself in the midst of a "laundry emergency"!
