Hay guys what up hope you are all doing great and everything is going good for you.  I used to be a avid bike rider but after going from 220 to 340 my bike got too skinny for me and would not carry me anymore with out it's wheels going ouch.  Well now I am down to 190 to 195 depends on what I did the day before I weight myself.  Anyway I went to a bike shop and bought myself a new road bike (boy are they hi tech now a days) now this is funny, I went to various shops about 10 and looked at at least 20 type of bikes and finally bought one that I liked but all week the weather was warm and sunny well the day I pick up my bike to ride the next day it rains! and still raining can you imagine that nothing but rain!  Well I am taking the afternoon off to try out my new bike and do some flat areas we have an area here in San Diego called the Strand in Coronado that is about 8 or nine miles one way so I think I will go up and back to see how well I can do it seems that its going to rain this weekend also.  Well now that I am going to get back to riding I used to do centuries one or two a year I mostly did 50 or under three or four times a wee****il I hurt me knees and gained all my weight.  Well back to my question I used to carb up before my rides and drink a lot of power drinks or Gatorade stuff, now that I have had RNY I can't eat like I used to or drink like I used to so what do I do for sustained energy?  Does anyone have any problems with long rides?  What can I do to keep hydrated and keep my energy up?  Thanks for you help and any San Diego riders here?  Have a great day all.

There are things called gel's or shot bloks and they come in all shaps and size's . They come in small packs so you can put them in a pocket here and there . They will help you stay hydrated and fuled up as well .
I have no trouble on long rides .
I road RAGBRAI last year and am going again this year .

Good health and best wishes
Nick

I just started ridin in January for the first time and I am up to about 30 miles a day 3 times a week. I am using a hybrid biek instead of a street, but I did finally invest in some clips. I need to be able to do 90 miles a day by April.

Well I road yesterday and my legs feel fine but my butt is killing me.  I only did 20 miles but I was cold very cold and for San Diego that is saying something.  I want to get to ride to work at least two or three times a week in the summer but I have two jobs I work Mon - Fir 0600 to 1530 then I go to Petco Park during the season so when they have games I need to leave directly from here to Petco Park but if the Padres are not in town I can ride those days.  Good luck for your upcoming ride I hope you do good and you will be ready keep it up.

I am looking into getting a bike to start riding. The Kona Hoss from what i read is for larger heavy riders. Will cost about 800-1000 for it.  One guy i read about is 540lbs has one and rides it with no issues.

Wow that would be great you will love it I am not sure if you ever rode before but getting back into riding is a great way to get back into shape.  I am have today off so it's 0515 at the moment and I am drinking my vitamins, protein and my supplement's getting ready to do some riding I want to try at least some hills today and at least 30 miles but what I really want is hill and San Diego is full of them.  Let me tell you a little of what I did, I went to about 10 bike shop and rode as many as I could standing at 6' 5" I could only ride some but I tried them all and then I said this is what I want also remember that you are going to lose more weight and are going to want to upgrade to a better bike and lighter one so try and get the best one you can for the best price you can haggle with them they will come down and or try and get some free stuff from them they are not going to lose what you get from them they will charge someone else they always do.  Good luck in what you get and let me know how it goes.
