Would the doctor "bluff" about an enlarged liver or really reschedule?

I broke my two week pre-op liquid diet and ate last night. Big greasy Taco Bell Meal. I have seen on many personal sites and pre-surgery pictures about the "last meal" Can one meal swell your liver? I have two days before surgery.
Back in November my ultra sound revealed an enlarged fatty liver. He didn't say it was HUGE or anything like that he just said I needed to shrink it to give him more room to work.

What if the doctor gets in there and decides he can't do the surgery because the liver is in the way? He said he would sew me back up and reschedule if it was too big. I wonder if the insurance would cover the extra cost?

This is one of the reasons they give for having you lose considerable weight prior to surgery. Sounds like he thinks your liver will shrink considerably (mine did with a loss from 280 to 260 pre-op - doc was excstatic on op day) so I would say it is a distinct possibility. If you do your part and lose as much as you can (don't gain weight, anyway) you'll probably be okay. It could mean the difference between lap and open surgery, though I've heard.

My doc also had to go back in for Peterson's hernia surgery one year post and said he could find little scar tissue. Lose as much as you possibly can.

NotDave  you were only 260 lbs. when you had your WLS???

Heck that's more than I weigh NOW (and only 10 lbs. more than my lowest weight)

That's right Batswingsman. I had to self pay here in Japan. There's not coverage of WLS. So any weight would have been okay. My previous high was 305 at age 27 and I felt like I was heading in that direction or beyond.

 I see ..

btw, NotDave, I saw a guy posting on TT last night about his recent WLS in Tokyo at "the only hospital presently doing WLS in Japan" ..   I think he called it a "cube" (is that Jap. for "hospital"?)   I don't remember his username, it was something like "shrinkingman", IIRC.   Do you know him?         He also weighed less at the time of his WLS than I did at my lowest post-op point ..

That's my doc who's now at Yotsuya Medical Cube. Not sure where the "cube" comes from. Could be that it's 4 or 6 different organization or departments working together, but really not sure. I got my Peterson's hernia taken care of there. It's a nice hospital in one of the highest rent districts in Tokyo. I had PM with one guy, but not sure it's the same one.

That's okay, I was working out ten hours a week when I was your weight, buddy. Get out there and walk the pool lane until you look like a raisin! Cross country skiing was my big low stress thing, along with swimming in the heated pool, but we did have snow, which makes it easier on the skis.
