Would the doctor "bluff" about an enlarged liver or really reschedule?
I don't think your doctor would bluff you about that. I had the same issue. My doctor told me that about once a year, he goes in and has to close up without doing the surgery because he just can't get to the stomach. I followed the liquid diet religiously and lost 21 pounds in the week prior to surgery and he was very happy about that, and said that even though I have a large liver the surgery went well. Hopefully things will go just as well for you.
Let me get this right. Your surgery is in 2 days and you had one greasy Taco meal? Let the surgeon decide if it will make a difference. I personally doubt that one meal would have that much affect on the size of your liver. Calm down. You'll probably go through WLS without a hitch.
I'd be worried if you continually messed up the liquid diet. I know my surgeon just didn't believe in controlled diets prior to surgery, but I had my RNY with him way back in Nov, 2000.

I have always wondered about this subject. I went into my surgery at 384. My doc did not have me lose any weight pior to surgery and showed little concern over the liver. I also don't recomend my strategy of having a 3 mointh long last meal! I had an uneventful surgery and recovery.
I guess its always best to do what the doc says but the variety of instructions can be confusing. I can't imaone meal hurting the size of ur liver.

I thought it strange that my surgeon doesn't usually require a pre-op liquid diet for weeks or any kind of actual weight loss before surgery .. He did, however, suggest going a week on liquids beforehand would be a good idea, to help with the "maneuvering room" under there b/c of the liver. However, this seems to only be necessary for a week pre-op. I guess it can make that much of a difference in that short of time.
Come to think of it, I wonder why surgeons apparently don't require that we go on a bowel-cleanse thing the day before our WLS, drinking that "Go-Litely" nasty stuff to clear everything out down there .. You'd think they'd want us to do that, to help minimize chances of infection .. (?)

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "
