Hey guys...I was just wondering are there certains food that you eat that help make the bathroom trip easier. I am looking for certain foods to eat along with taking an over the counter stool softner to make it easier.  Which softner do you use, if you do use one?  I am already taking a fiber capsule to keep the amount of times going regular. Just wondering what you may eat along with what softner you use to help you out with this. Thanks!

I've been having a lot of llentl soup.  That has (some) protein, is bulky and filling and has vegetables and will definately help with your problem.

You might want to up your clear fluids.  I had an EVENT 2 mos out that prompted me to MAKE SURE I had plenty of water daily.  Certain pains are hard to take - passing stones and the other one
Good luck to you

This will be one of the permanant problems you have, ballancing fibre and protien.  For the first 6 months your water intake is the one thing that will help the most.  Get in all the vegies and fruit that you are allowed, and add a viamin E suppliment for softening.  Cold rolled Flax Seed added to yogurt (or anything, I add to cerial) will help too.  The flax seed is available in health food stores and is refrigerated.  I use "Barlean's Forti-flax".  16oz is about $8.  I use 2 TBS a day for fibre and omega 3's.

There's always the old stand-by of prune juice but be aware of the number of calories.  Plus, it may take a little while to be acclimated with the taste.

When I think of prunes and prune juice, I'm reminded of the great comedy team of Bob and Ray.  They had a radio show on WOR radio in NYC.  One of the dumb routines they had involved Mary Backside.  She used to go the House of toast where they served toast buttered on the near side or the far side along with prune whip shakes.  I get a smile just thinking of it.

Oh,,,, Joys of a GOOD BM..... This was a challenge for me.  I mean the hold verse that goes,,,
"HERE I SIT,,, Broken Hearted,, Walked a mile and only fated..."
Takes on a whole new meaning after WLS doesn't it???

Oh,,,, the joys of a good crap....

I have found in recent months that if I increase the fiber,, (VEGETABLES),, really work at getting in my water,,,  and exercise regularly,, The pluming works much better. Also there is something to be said about getting in those "HEALTHY OILS" (Flax Seed, Olive, Canola,,,) they really do seam to get things moving along.

The flax seed oil, do you take this in pill form, or cook with it?

Before surgery YES,,, Those big Mr Ed pills I took everyday (the best thing I ever did for myself besides surgery)...... Im too chicken now... I dont know what to do about the Omega 3.  I tried at first just breaking open the caps. But, that was really a pain in the neck. (I wouldnt pop open a Omega 3 unless you want to burp fish)   But, the flax can be purchase in a bottle.. I find it in the Cooking oil isle in my supermarket... If you can find it ask cause it there some place. I add a tsp to yogurt, Oatmeal,  or salad dressings its really kind of tasteless in that stuff.. I wouldnt try to cook with it though.. I have heard that PAM might have a spray with Omega 3 or Flax in it but, I havent found it.

The magic bullet for many post-ops are a handful of those sugar-free candies sweetened with sugar alcohols.   My personal favs back then were those sugar-free Russel Stover PB cups (sold at Walmart, Target, etc.)
