I asked this in the main board but I should of asked here.  I am on day 6 of my 2 week liquid pre-op diet.  I drink my carb control shakes and drink my 8oz of juice or broth every 2 hrs.  The hunger hit today.  I also have a physical job that I dont know if I can do next week feeling like this.  Any advice

If you have already made it for 6 days then you are doing good, hang in there your half way there. As far as work goes only you know if you can safely do your job or not. I had no choice prior to surgery because I had to save my vacation time for post surgery recovery.

I work as a journeyman electrician and I work not only a physical job but at heights as well. I worked up until the morning of my surgery and returned to work one week after my surgery. I did have to restrict my lifting the first 6 weeks after surgery, but I was fine after that. If you are getting enough protein you should be fine. My Nutritionist told me to get in at least 84 grams of protein a day.

As for the hunger part.... I have the hardest time knowing head or emotional hunger from actual physical hunger.  I, too, thought that I was hungry after surgery and already had to start monitoring my portions one week out because I was eating 5 times more than others were at the same stage.  Maybe it it is almost like phantom pain when people lose a limb and talk about feeling their absent body part.  Food has been my comfort friend for a long time and right after surgery we need comfort.  GOod time to find it in other ways.  The good thing about having to struggle so early on is that it forces us to develop and foster those behaviors that will get us through for the long haul.

Have you been walking?  this will be key to getting you ready for work.

I am surprised they let you have the juice.  On my 4 week Medifast liquid diet, I was allowed my shakes, water, decaf tea and occasional broth (no artifical sweetners in anything).  They told me this was because the carbs and pseudo carbs (in splenda equal) can increase your hunger.  By following this closely, I was not really hungry on 400 to 500 calories a day.

Good luck, your surgery day will be here before you know it.
