BamaBob,
Did you ever think that you'd be under 200lbs?  I simply can't imagine that for myself.  I currently weigh between 380lbs to 400lbs.  In highschool I got down to just under 200lbs and my doctor was telling me to put on weight.  Even at 200lbs I wore a size 36 waist in pants.  I wrestled, played football, and ran track.  I pack a lot of muscle on my frame.  My max bench was a little over 400lbs and I could squat over 800lbs.  I don't push that kind of weight anymore but I still exercise on a regular basis.  The doctors have said that I shouldn't get below 250lbs.  They've said 275lbs would be a good number for me.  I know that I will lose muscle, that's unavoidable.  That 275 was without WLS, it was if I dieted on my own.

I'm not going to get hung up on numbers or how fast it comes off.  I want a healthy body fat percentage, whatever that weight may be.  I'll use the tool that they give me and I'll do my best.  I just wanted your take on things.

Duane, I believe that if we follow the plan set out by our Doc and Nutritionist, get in the right amount of protein, stay hydrated, and exercise regularly,  our bodies will figure out where they need to be as far as weight.

I try not to get hung up on the scale or on numbers - it is what it is.  Instead, I go by how I feel , how my clothes fit, and how much energy I have. I graduated high school  in 1971 (yep, that was a a lonnnnng time ago!) at a weight of 280 lbs, I was a big guy all my life, but was fairly "athletic" (played football, basketball, baseball). Still, I was overweight.

This surgery has allowed me to regain control of my health and my life. Stay the course brother, it works!!

Awesome job Bama.  Your "skinny arse" is certainly a role model for the guys on the board, as well as myself.  Keep up the great job you are doing.

Be good my friend.

Bama you are a prim example of what to do with WLS.  You have always been a great examplar of how to use the tool and not expect a magical transformation.

Thanks for showing us all the right way down the path.

Well fellas, yesterday marked 11 months since my WL surgery at Vandy. I am currently at 186 lbs.. That's 211 pounds down from my all time high of 397!  I weighed 366 when I had my first consult, and the day of my surgery I weighed 333.

I now wear a size 34 pants and a size M shirt. I was wearing  size 50-52 pants and 3X-4X shirts.  This whole journey has been nothing less than amazing so far. I really can't believe what a difference this surgery has made in all aspects of my life - health (physical & mental), work, exercise - every part has been affected for the better!

I'll tell anyone who is considering this surgery that, for me, it was the best thing I ever did to regain my life.  Now, as has been said a thousand times, it is not a "magic cure".  Educate yourself about the different procedures and what is required before and after surger. To be successful requires dedication, determination, and commitment to following your program and nutrition plan, exercising regularly, and educating yourself about nutrition. But with the help of a WL "tool", and  applying that dedication and commitment, you CAN be successful at taking your life back!
ditto!
