I don't know that we have had any P.O.s on the MF of late ..   But we have had several firefighters who had surgery and are now doing GREAT ..

(speaking of which, where has "Fireman Bob" been of late?   ltns ..      )

I have been LEO in a large, metropolitan PD for 23 years(not hard to guess which one). I had my Banded RNY/GBP in Dec. 2005 & have had nothing but positive results & experiences. When I was at my biggest (about 57 BMI) the job put me on restricted duty (desk patrol) and told me that they would release me on  disability (mostly due to my co-morbidities). I didn't blame the PD surgeons, but I was wasn't going to let that happen. After the surgery I was out sick for about six weeks & upon return was placed on limited duty for an additional six weeks. Once I was cleared by my surgeon for full activity, the PD surgeons retstored me to full duty. All my co-morbidities were resolved within one month of the surgery. Since then I have been promoted to Lt. and have been sought out by my superiors for special assignments & details. I have been holding steady in the low to mid 190 lb range. It took about one year to reach my personal goal. I yes to all you tools reading this post...I do enjoy a doughnut from time to time with my coffee! LOL. My advice: train for the surgery like you you did when you were in the Academy. Investigate your Dr & hospital as you do for any Robbery case.  Prepare  for a battle that utimately will save your life. You will be a better cop & person for it. Good luck. Stay safe. Any questions PM me.

I'm a paramedic and considering WLS.  From what one of the other medics who had surgery told me, you can expect to take eight weeks off from work.  I plan to use my short term disability through both work and Aflac to keep getting paid.  If and when you consider consulting with a surgeon it's important that you tell him/her exactly what you do for a living and then they will adjust recovery times appropriately.

I am a police chief of a small town police division (45 sworn) and after my experience and that of my wife who is a respiratory therapist.  I would expect my street officers to be off six weeks and my detectives to be off at least four weeks.  I only took off two weeks but can come and go as I please or adjust my hours as necessary.  I wouldn't plan on chasing anyone for at least six weeks.

Chief,

1.  Is there a residency requirement to get licensed in Ohio?

2.  Is your agency hiring?

No wife, no kids - can travel!

Yes there is a residency requirement and we were just told not to fill a retirment position and expect two more layoffs around the first of the year if revenue doesn't increase.  Sorry.

I'm a Federal Correctional Officer at a maximum security penitentiary and started out at 450 pounds. Don't know what the heck I was thinking about letting myself get there but now that I'm down to 215 I am much more effective on the job.... and at home for that matter.

I had my RNY on 2-2-07. I had it open and was back on the job in two weeks. I had no pain and was feeling pretty well so I took the chance.

The only thing my supervisors were leery of was the fact I had a tube in my side for six months. I did get into a few physical confrontations in the first couple of months but protected my side pretty well. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't jeopardising myself or fellow officers. I was afraid that the inmates would try to test me at a smaller size but I think they realized I could run faster than they could now so that wasn't a problem
