Looking back, my best analogy is you are approaching the peak of the biggest peak of a rollercoaster ride.  Day of surgery is capping the peak.  When you wake up in recovery, you will become aware of the initial thrilling part of the ride coming down the otherside.

There may or may not be a smaller hills or bumps on the way back to the gates, but you have done the hard part; making the choice, enduring the advice to proceed or don't do this to yourself, the dealing with the insurance(s) and doctor choices, the psych review, and all the paperwork and worry about whether you are making the right choice.  You are.

Now throw your hands up and scream as needed and enjoy the wild ride of weight loss and itas associated attention, emotions, what you can and can't eat, listening to your new digestive system (cause it will talk to you) what you will or be willing to try to be active, the detoxing of past eating and all the new friends you are going to make and the new energy and quality of life ahead of you.

I am most excited for you .  I'm almost 3 yrs out and all I can say is Man,...what a ride!

Welcome aboard. She's a big ship we are all sailing aboard on the WLS journey, but there's plenty of room. This ship seems to have less of a load every day.

I looked at your profile and saw that your wife had WLS just a few months ago.  So, I assume that you know what to expect.  You sounded disappointed in the profile that she got it before you.  Ah, well.  Now you can work on weight loss together.  She'll already know what foods to prepare for you.  I hope she doesn't get too disappointed when you start dropping weight faster than her ( in actual pounds).  The weight loss by % of pre-surgery body weight should be about the same.

It's great that you'll have a diet buddy.  You already know that the WLS gives you a tool to work with that will help control your eating.  You will go on a post-op diet that will change gradually over 6 months and then you will start following your lifetime way of eating or diet.

Good luck with the surgery.  You have our best wishes plus your family will be anticipating your recovery.  Just think of how the whole dynamic of your family activities is going to change post-op.
