I really need some help/advice---what can I do?

One thing I have seen over the years.  During exercise my body would hold on thightly to the weight...It doesn't want to let go.  The one thing for me (and others) that caused the weight to drop...Physical work.  For some reason doing chores around the house would cause the weight to drop.  Things like cleaning the car, cleaning the house, gardening, or helping neighbors with projects would cause the weight to fall off.  But when I would exercise...the weight would hold on tight...Go figure.  Brian

Increase the walking to DAILY, up the protein intake (use protein shakes and powders to do this), and make sure you are getting in enough water.  It will work if you stick to the basics - stay hydrated, get enough protein in, and walk and exercise daily.

I read all the above posts, and here is my 2 cents.

Your Doctor told you not to count calories for a reason.  He wants your mind only on water, protien and exercise.  800-900 calories per day is plenty at 2 months, probably plenty for 4 months post.

The scale really is your enemy until you get close to maintenance.  Put it away in a closet or the emotional roller coaster ride will make you crazy.

Eating 3 times per day is not enough.  To keep your metabolism moving you need to eat at least 5 times per day whether it is a protien bar, yogurt or an egg.  That is what you need to keep your mind on - eating often enough while also haveing the time to get in your water between meals.

RNY works.  You need to keep your head in the game, not on the scale and you will do great.

Thank you to EVERYONE who has posted in this thread.  This info will be really helpful and I plan to follow the suggesstions in here.  To update everyone : I have gone back to daily walking/excersize and upped my protein even more (aiming for 100 grams instead of 80) and in the last 2 days (since I originally posted this thread), i lost an additional 3 pounds.  I really appreciate all the help.  :)

There is no such thing as ONLY 31 pounds. Congratulations,, just loosing 10 surgery or no surgery is remarkable. Keep doing what you're doing... I might try to eat a little more give your body something to burn... But, I know at this stage in the game it's very difficult. But, you'll get over the hump. Just stay positive.... You've made the right choice especially if you've come from where the rest of us have.

The way I look at it is if you're losing you're being successful.  31 pounds is nothing to be ashamed of.

I walk daily and it is usually 3 miles. If I cannot get outside because of the rain I do 60 minutes on the treadmill every day except Sunday. I work nights and get up around 11:00 am (I work 6 PM to 2:30AM Sunday-Thursday). And this time of year it is too damn hot and humid out to walk. That's where the treadmill comes in.

I also try to stick to three meals a day, but I do use protein mix (vanilla or chocolate) in my coffee, and if I get hungary between meals I'll have a protein bar.

Stick with it and you'll see progress!!!
