Having trouble staying on track
I finally got to a computer that I can use up here. They have one in the Hospice for us to use, but it I wasn't able to get on until now.
We've been in Buffalo a week and my Mom is still hanging in there. It's been almost two weeks since she had anything to eat or drink. It must be the stubborn German in her keeping her going.
As far as trying to stay with the plan, it's been very hard. I've been trying to eat three meals but with keeping vigil with Mom it's hard. I haven't weighed myself for two weeks now so I don't know if I'm losing or gaining. I eat whenever I can. Thank God for my wife, she's been with me the whole time, even the nights like last night when I stay with Mom.

Right now.. you're mom is and should be the most important factor in your life. God bless her and your family.

Mike, you're out of your routine ... you're a thousand miles away from your kitchen that's stocked with what you choose to eat ... and you're in a tough emotional place keeping vigil and waiting for the inevitable. Even though you don't feel like it, you need to keep your nourishment up, even if it's with a stash of protein bars. The pastor in me says that you won't be any good for your mother or the rest of your family if you lose your strength and health from malnourishment - which could be exacerbated because of the WLS. The WLS colleague in me thinks that when you do eat, try to focus on proteins from wherever you can get them ... and also says that if you focus on Mom now, you can refocus on WLS once the vigil ends. Eating less under these cir****tances is probably better than eating the wrong things.
If your mom is still conversant, enjoy the opportunities to remember with her. If she isn't, hopefully you and the rest of the family can do some positive remembering.
If you need someone to talk to or unload on, PM me and I'll give you my cell number.

I have to agree with the good pastor. welll...and everyone else, to be frank.
Grab your mom's hand and sing to her while someone runs to GNC or some other sport nutrition store and grabs you a case of bottled protein drinks. Shot gun those babies, and toss the dead soldiers on the floor.
You know your mother always worried about whether or not you were eating well, right?
