Medical problems?
I guess that after abusing my body for many years that it shouldn't come as a surprise that I am having some medical problems. When I was younger and not being treated for my mental problems, I thought I would just end up dying from a heart attack. Then I found that people on both sides of my family had good hearts and generally lived into their 80s or 90s. I was pushing the envelope on bad health when I had my first RNY when I was 50 in 2000 and weighed 571 lbs. I didn't develop heart problems until about 3 years ago and I was down over 200 lbs. Of course, I probably would have been dead if I hadn't had the RNY.
My biggest problem now is with atrial fibrilation. To avoid throwing a blood clot from the heart to the brain, I have to take coumadin. No problem there until I get a bad reading. I go about every two weeks to be tested. I went this past Mon morning and my personal doc called me at 11:00pm from his home and asked me to go to the emergency room of the hosp to get a vitamin K shot and be examined. However, I had a similar problem about 3 months ago and the emercency room docs wouldn't give me the vitamin K and I was charged $100 co-pay by my ins for an emergency room visit. So, I told my doc that I would not go. Besides, I had just taken my coumadin 2 hours prior. He told me to not take any coumadin. He had my wife come for a script to have the bloodwork done stat at a different hosp on Wed and I had an appt to see him that day anyway. When I saw him my count was much lower, but he wanted me to repeat the procedure this morning. However, he never called back with dosing recommends. I put myself on minimal dosing--1.25 mg (1/2 of a 2.5mg pill****il I hear from him.
I also had an appt to see my cardiologist today. The first thing I did was get weighed and found that I'm 342. That was almost a WOW moment--almost--because I ate like a food addict and pig since I was last weighed in Oct and had almost no exercise. And, I weighed 339 back then so I only gained 3 lbs. There's still hope for me. The cardiologist did an EKG and said my readings were quite different from the last time. She explained that it might be an indication of fluid around the heart and has ordered me to have a nuclear stress test on Wed and Fri of next week along with echocardiograms. Hey, I care enough to get the tests done.

I had blood clots in my lung and leg two years ago this month. I was on Coumadin for nine months. I still worry about a recurrence. Especially since doctors could never determine WHY the clots developed in the first place.
I hope that your issues go away.. or at least don't get worse. Hang in there and listen to your doctor.

Your response gives me hope. Thanks for posting. I know that I can come to the Men's Forum and express myself and get the support I need. I do regret that I tend ( tend?) to be a bit worthy. I've been that way for about 20 years. My old boss would say that I'd write and epistle where a memo would do.
