WHAT?? 3.4 lb GAIN in one day????
Thanks for the insight, Dalton.
Yep, I'll be there on the 20th. Looking forward to catching up with you as well.
By the way, I'm starting to look into having my pannus removed. I've got to have a hernia repaired and I figured I could do it at the same time.
Refresh my memory, who was your PS? I remember you saying that you were extremely happy with the results. Is that still the case?
Thanks,
Syd

Yes, I have been really pleased with him. His name is Dr. Karl Schwarz. www.schwarzps.com
I am seeing him today at 2:20 actually. Good luck with the pannus removal and hernia repair. Hope it all goes well. The hernia will definitely play in your favor in getting insurance approval for the tummy tuck.

Relax....its water weight....you cannot gain 3.4 lbs of fat in one day....Personally, I gain and then lose 5 to 10 lbs every single day....did you know a gallon of water weighs 8 POUNDS?

I was just going to echo the sentiment abou****er weighing 8pounds a gallon. that's 1/2 pound per cup.
Weighing yourself after drinking a 16oz bottle of water can add 1pound right there.
Once you start doing strength building type exercises, it's important to do measurements too. Muscle is more dense than fat, so you could lose fat, gain muscle and not lose... possibly even gain. By volume fat weighs about 20% less than muscle.
So if you lost 5pounds of fat, but gained 5# of muscle, that 5# is bout 20% smaller than it was.

Ya know, many years ago it seemed to be the medical "standard" that any unexplained weight fluctuation of 2+ lbs. within a 24-hour period was cause for concern, and should be evaluated by a doctor. I guess they are concerned that such a gain/loss would be due to a fluid imbalance/edema in the body, likely something related to the cardiovascular system, such as c.h.f.
I don't know if that "2-lb/24-hour rule" is still true today, or whether there is an exception to the rule for WLSers, for some reason .. Anyone know for sure?
My guess (and this would only be a GUESS) is that if you are definitely clear as to any heart problems/c.h.f., such a 2+ gain/loss is probably innocuous ..

Batwingsman -- Definitely no heart problems. Cleared with multiple heart tests prior to surgery.
Update -- sudden weight gain was definitely due to the fluid/bruising. Lost about half of it the next day and most of it came off the rest of the week even though I wasn't doing my normal exercising.
I've got a huge nasty bruise from the back of my thigh stretching down to the top portion of my calf. Saw the doctor today and it is a partial tear of two of the three muscles that make up what we call the hamstring. So, I'm on the 3 week disabled list. Start physical therapy tomorrow.
I can live with missing the start of the softball season. What I'm concerned about is that I've built up some great habits over the past year (2 nights of weights, 4 nights of cardio each week) and I don't want to lose those. Right now, I can only do upper body work. Will start back doing some walking as soon as I'm able but it will be awhile before I'm back to the calorie burn I was at.
it is definitely water. i've been known to flucuate 9 to 10 lbs in one day due to either excess water retention or excess dehydration. when you work out, sometimes your body will retain more water if you get dehydrated, add some salty food or a bit of alchol (this also plays havoc w/ water retention) you can have some pretty wild swings. I personally weight myself daily and have become used to these flucuations, when it becomes a trend (over a week or two) then you can start to have some concerns. unless you are consuming 3,500 calories OVER what you burn (typically around 1500 to 2500 calories) you will not gain a lb of fat in one day.
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.
