Tomorrow is my BIG day!  Having RNY surgery.  Any sage words of advice?

Good luck!

They don't let you drink anything for a while after the surgery. Need an XRay / whatever to make sure all is well.

So... My mouth got SUPER dry. They swabbed my mouth with a rinse once, and that felt nice. I wish they had come back and done it again. As I was cleaning up my table about 6 hours later, I noticed they had left it there for me to use.

DOH!

So, stay vocal in recovery. If you need something, ASK for it!

And, good luck and God bless in your surgery / recovery / aftermath.

Cheers!

Hey Grandpa
Good luck!  I was about the same weight as you when I started this journey, and it has been remarkable.  I lost more quicker than I ever thought I would.   At my age (60)  it is tough to lose weight, but with the help of a good surgeon I have lost 90 lbs, and I am 10 lbs away from being "normal".  In weight, anyway.   Keep looking up and ahead.

They gave me ice chips to help with the dry mouth. That sure was good.
They will walk you around and maybe make you take a shower before you go home.
Use a cane or chair or something to help get up from a chair for a few days. Helps with the side pain, or did for me. Good luck,
David

Thanks guys.  I am ready for this and kinda excited, if you can be for surgery.  I am just sick and tired of the yo-yo dieting and now multiple health issues, Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, and Sleep Apnea.  I know this is pretty drastic, but dying young is even more drastic.  Thanks for your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.  I'll post more as my journey continues.

The only thing I didn't expect was weeks of gas and bloating. But I had very little pain from the incisions. Drink your liquids.. Get up and walk around as soon as you are able. Most of all.. prepare to be patient. Good Luck.
