Registered for first 5K!
Greetings!
It's been a little while since I checked in, so I thought registering for my first official 5K was as good a reason as any to reach out to say hi!
Things continue to go well. I am down almost 150 lbs since I started the WLS process just over 1 year ago. I have been hovering right about 195-200 lbs for the past 3 months and doing well. This has truly been an amazing process.
One of the challenges I gave myself part way through the process was to run a 5K at some point this year. Well, it will finally happen next month. I am registered for the Lifetime Fitness Turkey Day 5K that will take place in downtown Minneapolis (pray for now SNOW!).
I have a warm up fun run that a friend of mine puts on a few weeks prior, but the TD5K will be my first OFFICIAL run. I am looking forward to it and a bit nervous all at the same time. Up to now I have really only been running on a treadmill, so I need to get outside and do some 'real running'!
Hope all is well and thanks for the ongoing inspiration!
Michael

SweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeT!
I hope your LifeTime 5Ks are better than the ones here, we have LOTS! of hills!
You are going to have a blast doing it, I have yet to meet or hear from anyone that hasn't enjoyed their first 5K.
Nothing better than earning your Turkey!
I will keep you in my thoughts as I run my Half Marathon (Number 2) That morning :)

Michael,
Crossing that finish line will be a moment you will never forget. Make sure to savor every second of it and have people there to take plenty of pictures. One bit of advice that I learned when I started running, and that is to be sure to wear proper support for "the boys". As former obese men the muscles in our groin area are very weak from all our weight sitting on top. I need to wear a jock for everything I do now, and its much more comfortable.
Best of luck and don't worry about the times, my goal is just to finish verticle.

Compression garments are a lifesaver! I wear tips and bottoms when I run or do anything physical. Get them 1-2 sizes smaller than you wear great for holding the jiggly bits in place.

I like the ones they have at Kohls and I always seem to get them when they are on sale. Champion makes some decent ones that you can get at Target. No need to spend wads of cash on UA but I might get some from them for my big races next year.
