no real plans here. My kids are on spring break. I took them to the movies to see 'Hop' on Friday night, and rented them video games and movies for last night. Probably more of the same today.

I hope the wedding went smoothly, I'm assuming it was last night. I hope your weekend went great!

So you're saying the surgeon's at the Barix Center are more experienced than the ones at University of Michigan?

I know many people who have gone to the Barix Center in Ypsilanti. I don't know of anyone who has had a terrible outcome there. Barix Center has more experience than University of MI with weight loss surgeries. Their program is basically just getting started 2-3 years. It has gone through changes to improve.
At UM you would be seen by residents and placed in the same rooms / units has any other surgery patient.
If you have a problem after you are discharged, they would refer you to the ER, you would be seen by a resident or the attending on call.
Both hospitals have positive reviews. Sometimes insurance plays a part in where you have surgery also.

Last year when I went to my PCP to let her know I was interested in WLS, she warned me about that place. She said that with some of her patients the follow up care wasn't great. Something about the patients getting "dumped" in the ER.
Now I live in that area and it would have been nice & close to my house, BUT I know I definately wanted to go with a bariatric clinic that was attached to a hospital. I went to St. Mary's in Livonia. If I didn't go to St. Mary's I would have gone to Henry Ford or U of M or just about any other place but there.

To be honest.....that hospital has one of the worst reputations. I live 15 minutes from it and I traveled up to Grand Rapids (2hrs and 10minutes) to have my DS done. I WAS going to get the RNY and was going to use a surgeon out of Henry Ford Macomb, until I decided to get the DS. Almost got the VSG....and would of went to Grand Rapids for that as well.

My advice....RUN!!!

What is your plans for this weekend? Are you on spring break? Going on Vacation?

I help run the sound an power point room for our church so I have been delt the card of helping with a church wedding,,, which I am fine with ... then I will be attending church on sunday...
Then go from there... i am not on spring break so we will see how things go?......

Lets see I have had some much happen to me since I have posted the most recent being in so much pain I could not stand it.. not to mention ( tmi) blood in the stools ( this was per the docs exam not even I seen it but got love the postive results. Anywho met with a surgeon on thursday 24 an he decided that he was going to scope me both down the thoart as well as a colonoscpy(sp) for the 29th... I really tried to make it to that date I really did.. Ended up in the Emergency room on sunday afternoon due to throwing up blood. Large amount of it at that . The doc told me that he was going to stick a tube down my nose an see what he got ( shear panic set in) thankful he called both my primary an the surgeon whom came to the answer that they would stick me in the hospital an try an scope me on Mondy. spent sunday an monday in only to have the surgeon come in an tell me that because I was not give the prep I would have to wait until tuesday to be scoped. (insert sad pain face ) anyway make it till tues get the scope done only to find out that the surgon feels that my Lap band has sliped ( keep in mind that I have moved there fore I am not following with my origanal surgeon ) so now i sit an wait an see what my primary decided to do on this coming tuesday ( hoping for the best. I was really hoping for a better year in 11 but not seeing it yet.. but I know that God will see me through everything. what does not kill me makes me stronger. ( I am very very sorry to my serect pal.. I feel horrible I promise I am making it up to you...

Good Luck... I hope you get it covered. I had my first appointment a few weeks ago and am waiting to hear back if my insurance is going to cover my TT as well.... Got my fingers crossed and saying prayers for the both of us..... Hope your first appointment is a good one and you like the doctor....
