Consult with Dr. Buchwald
My friend and i have a consult with Dr. Buchwald at the U of M on Dec, 17 for the DS. Can anyone give us the run down on where the best place to stay, as we are driving down from Ontario, a 6 hr drive, Also what should we expect at this consult. Any advice or info would be very appreciated........Thanks.........Daphne
Daphne, can't help much with where to stay but there are lots of places to stay in the area. If you stay right near the hospital, it will likely cost you more. If you can do one of the burbs, it should be cheaper. The directions they have to the clinic are easy enough.
I had a consult with Dr. Leslie at U of M. If it's anything like that, you will sit though about a 30 minute presentation. Have your paperwork filled out before you go. Then you will have your vitals checked and weight recorded and then get some time with the surgeon. Then you will meet with a nutritionist. None of it took very long. But Buchwald may be different.

Alannah.........all the info i have on Dr. Buchwald, i found right here on OH.......just go to the "find a bariactric surgeon" then click on MN. He is renowned in his field and probably one of the most qualified too..........good luck
There are several hotels right on campus that have reduced rates for U of M patients. Go to http://www.fairview-university.fairview.org/YourVisit/Lodgin g/index.asp for detailed information on hotels, locations and rates.
Right next to the hospital there is a hotel. I would just call Dr B's office and ask for recommendations on where to stay. They will help you out. However, if you need any help feel free to PM me at anytime.

I WOULD love to see more about the DS on this board, and more people suggesting it as an option - since we are so very lucky to have 2 experienced DS surgeons in our state . . . some people have to travel thousands of miles. But I really don't see many here, for whatever reason. I do check here, once in a while to see if there is something I can offer info on . . . but there so much I CAN'T address, being a DSer.
