Hi Everyone. I'm Karine from Mississippi. I have BCBS of MN through my husband's employer. Does anyone know what their stand is on having plastic surgery done?  I need to have my panni removed (it's at least 35 lbs. of skin), my arms done (bat wings), and breasts augmentation. I was just curious if anyone knew what they will and will not cover?

Thanks for any input!  :)

BCBS is tough!!  You have to have tons of doctors and documentation to prove it is medical neccessity.  Need to go to their website and find out the details and explanations.  ANd then call them also.  Best to you on that journey!!!

More than just having BCBS of MN, it also depends on who the employer is.  Each employer actually sets the rules.  BCBS just administers the plans.  If you don't mind me asking, who is his employer?

I guess it doesn't really matter because I haven't even thought about ps.  But if you find out, let me know.  I have BCBS Federal Employee Plan.  I didn't have a 6 month wait for surgery.  I waited 4 months and was approved on the first time.  I went from a 46C to a 32A (and an A is really pushing it).  Never thought I'd consider PS.  But a boob job opportunity would never be turned down.

His employer is G&K Services. At least, that is their name here, not sure about in MN. I went from a 52C to a 36A and like you a boob job wouldn't be turned down. I'm 2.5 years out from surgery and down 200 lbs. My panni is causing back problems, so hopefully it'll be enough to get it covered. I guess we'll see...

Not only should you call BCBS to ask about the extent of coverage, but also ask them to send you a hard copy.

BCBS is the administrator for my empoyer's health coverage. Having that hard copy in hand was really helpful to me when jumping through all of the pre-approval hoops. I always knew exactly what I needed to have done. I think it would be helpful when looking at ps as well. You never know when a rep will misquote something over the phone.

Good luck to you!

I have BCBS of MN.  For some reason it is really difficult to find their policies on line so I have the policy webpage bookmarked.
