Ok Im just asking a question.  So dont tear me apart here.  I tried a little wine on Sunday night.  I got buzzed right away.  I stopped because I didint want to get sick.  So Im wondering is it ok to have a drink every once in a while????  Or has anyone tried???  Get back and please be nice....

Hi,

I know a few people that have wine or a few drinks......I think it's a personal decision...  I myself have only recently had 1 drink, and sipped on it all night, so I never even got a buzz......

I know that Dr. Ikramuddin's group recommends waiting at least 9 months-- and also that alcohol affects people very differently post WLS.  It also represents empty calories--actually alcohol is metabolized as fat calories.

I do like a good wine, or glass of single malt Scotch-- but will try to be a good girl and wait the 9 months!

I also like a good glass of wine once in a while. I have a glass of water at the same time and aftera sip of wine ,I have a sip of water. My doc told me to wait four weeks, and I did. It works well for me. Bottom line is listen to your Doc.

I agree with Kelly~ that it's a personal decision.  This summer I had 3 glasses of wine over an evening and I got room-spinning inebriated. Not fun!  Won't be doing THAT any time soon!  ((And my son thought it was hysterical!  He had never seen me talking utter foolishness before.))

I drink but it doesn't take much anymore to get me drunk so I can only have maybe 2 sometimes 3 if I sip and move around. Brandy/7 I can do and don't have the dumping feeling but the more "sweeter" drinks I have to be very carefull.

Once in a blue moon I have a drink.  My max is 2.  And that would take an entire evening to drink!  And ONLY on a full pouch.  So basically I can only do little sips and stretch it out.  So, its just not fun anymore so I rarely do it.

Nope, there's waaaay to high a chance for me of addiction transference to alcoholism so I refuse to touch it. I can count on 3 fingers the number of times i've drank alcohol since surgery and i felt like %^#* after all of them. Don't get started on it because you'll try to "test the waters" like everyone does with sugar. I don't recommend it at all, but of course that's just *MY* opinion only.

I think you should call your Dr's office and ask about it.  If your not comfortable asking them, then you probably know you shouldnt be doing it.  Its WAY to early.
