Update from Me
For those that remember me... :-)
The last time I was here I posted that I was scheduled to have back fusion done on 9/29.. that fell threw.. got canceled at the last minute due to scheduling issues or some wrong reason. So they moved it to November 10th. So, after a day of crying (this as something I was looking forward to, and needed) and a week off, I went back to work. It was good that it didn't happen as I blew out an old root canal within days of the first surgery date. I was in INCREDIBLE pain. Up for many nights before I finally went and got the dreaded Ibuprofen. I was on incredibly strong antibiotics along with that so they could knock out the infection (My face was so swollen on one side) and then redo the root canal. It was a mess. Finally, the infection calmed down enough that the surgeon was able to go in, clean up what was wrong (the previous dentist didn't finish the root canal), and close me up for a week of healing. I did 21 days on antibiotics. I went back and they finally felt it was good enough to close it up. They they sent me back to my dentist who wanted to sent up a round of appointments to crown the tooth. Problem was this was now a week before my surgery.. So.. Not going to happen..
Anyways, so on 11/10, my hubby and I showed up at Abbott Northwestern for my Anterior Posterior 2-level Back Fusion. This terrified me, but I knew I needed it. I was down to walking with a walker, dragging my right leg 1/2 the time and was struggling big time. Even though I had gastric bypass my weight had gone back up due to depression (RNY was supposed to help my back.. it didn't...) and the fact I couldn't exercise anymore. I felt hopeless. This was it.. the next step. So we got into the surgical area in the Piper building and waited forever. My surgery was scheduled for 10am.. and we sat in preop forever... We saw the one doc... the "front guy" who would be the guy to do the front or "anterior" opening an guide the orthopedic surgeon to my spine. He decided to go through my c-section scar, which totally rocked for me since I've recovered twice from that. A while later we finally saw my surgeon. He rolled me over and marked up my back. Here we go!
I remember kissing my husband, and asking the guy who was wheeling me in if he had some good ****tails waiting for me. He smiled.. the bar is full .. and it's all for you!
The next I knew I was in recovery... waiting for a room. The worst pain was laying on the staples they put on my back. That was uncomfortable, to say the least. But I'm doing ok. I walk alot, and that's really all I can do.. walk walk walk.. reminds ya of after another surgery we know eh? I have 6 more weeks of that, then on to physical therapy.
As big as this is... I'm glad I found this doctor.. and that I've done this.. I got the feeling back in my left leg I lost... and I can walk again... and I can feel when my kids tickle my feet. Standing for long periods doesn't hurt. Walking long distances doesn't hurt.
Well, take care all...
