I'm 3 weeks away from my surgeon consultation with Dr. Drew at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and I want to get a jump start now on getting information about vitamins so I can be prepared.

-Where do you buy your vitamins?
-Do you get them online? If so, where?
-Do you have a prescription for some? If so, which ones?
-How many do you take per day and when?

Right now I take a daily multivitamin (Women's One-A-Day) but I hate how big the pill is and I know it doesn't give me the full effect that I should be getting from a vitamin regime.

I'm from Mankato also, not too many of us down this way.  I was banded so my vitamin needs are probably a little different than yours, but I also take a Flinstones chewable multivitamin as well as a calcium chew.  I was buying the Viactiv brand at Wal Mart, but was told not to anymore because it doesn't have any iron in them.

Yes, very few down here.  I found a couple in Waseca who have had RNY WLS and they've been incredibly helpful.  I just wasn't so sure where to look and what would be best considering the new wonky digestive system!

I'm post RNY, and here's my regimen:
Citracal Petites  2 tabs three times a day
Celebrate Bariatric Multi Vit (chewable) twice a day
B-12 sublingual once a day.
At my 6 months appt, they added Thiamine, Folic Acid, Zinc and Iron to correct some low lab values.

The recommendation against Viactive isn't so much about lack of iron (in fact, you shaould take calcium and iron at least two hours apart) but rather that it's the wrong form of calcium for RNYers-- we don't absorb calcium carbonate-- need to take calcium citrate.

I've heard a lot about calcium carbonate being the wrong kind of calcium for RNY people.  Thank you so much for your information.  There's so much to learn !
