OT Princess Nemi's hearing & Speech tests today
We know she understands full sentences like, "Go pick out a movie to watch and bring it to Mommy." That there is no problem. But to have her say "Watch Kung Fu Panda" comes out FUUUUU!!!
We see her struggle and hear her repeat the same babble that soundls like some words but she just can't make them clear. She says MOM or MOMMOM and Dad or DADDAD, Eow for Meow and wuff wuff for puppy. So the parts are all there, just need to figure out what help she needs to bring it all together.
She has lots of sign words, mostly NOT ASL, kind of a mix of ASL and common sense so she can communicate. But she gets so angry when she cannot make us understand we feel we have to start the process of some testing to find out how to make her life easier and better. There is definitely no problem with the hearing, maybe certain tones, that is what the hearing test is for. Speech is the big thing.
Hopes, prayers and love to her would be greatly appreciated. She is the absolute love of my life. Ok Marlin and Laurie run a really, really close second tie.
Karen,
A concerned Grandma who takes this job very seriously.

HUGS TO YOU LADY,
Karen and Laurie and Nemi

They do come here to Children's Hospital quite often. Maybe we could work around that when the summer comes. It would be fun to watch them interact!!

My grand-daughter went through this same thing. She is now 8 and we still have to look at her to fully understand her but she is off the charts in the intelligence part. She did not tal****il she went to kindergarten and not many words. As the year progressed she did get much better. I remember when they took her in for the hearing test and then the speech test, she would say the words just as asked when her mother was not in the room!! What a little dickens!! Good luck..
Before you know it she'll be talking your arm off!!Karen -
My two youngest are delayed with speech.
They both have speech therapy and the older one (almost 5) is in special ed preschool and we are holding him back next year. I think they will probably struggle with speech for a while, although they have improved a lot.
Alivia is 2 y 7 mo, so I can relate. She is saying more now (after a year of therapy), but it is still dang hard to understand her!
Has she been evaluated through the school district? If she qualifies, speech therapy and preschool are at no cost to the family.
