Nemi's Test Results

Well, it was good and bad. Nemi's hearing is great. No problems at all there.

The bad is that she at 29 months is talking at a 18 month level. So we Laurie has to get in touch with the school in Little Canada and find out about getting her some help. Or with a program called Follow Along Program.

She would be working with a speech therapist. The nice man that tested her gave us some information on where to start and what to do to help her in the mean time. He was impressed with her sign language and how she did communicate. Said that we as a family had done a great job with her, that it is related to being a preemie and that with some work she WILL catch up and be right on schedule. He watched her do a "meltdown" when she could not get what she was trying to say across and feels that all the cognitive skills are there, she just needs some fine tuning. I must say I was very impressed with Rich, the teacher, we made an immediate connection with him as he lost a sister so CF 20 years ago. That was like a message saying, you are having the right person test this precious girl.

Laurie is bummed but now that we all know what needs to get started and done to help her catch up, she can. There is nothing that Laurie did wrong or does not seem to be any bad resuls from the antibiotics she had to take while pregnant with Nemi. Her CF team was very, very careful of that.

As soon as we know more about the plan, we will let you know.

Hugs and kisses from our Princess to all,

Karen, Laurie and Nemi

Karen - I just posted under your other thread, but I wanted to add something.  All three of my kids are special needs (ADHD, speech delay, etc.), and I had a hard time with that a few months ago.  I finally reconciled it with myself, knowing I didn't do anything wrong, but that everyone has their struggles, this just happens to be theirs.  I thank my lucky stars that this is such a minor disability and they could have bigger battles to fight.

I am sure she will thrive with some additional coaching and you won't be able to get her to stop talking soon!  My 5 year old talks non stop now!

Thank you for reminding me that Nemi is not the only little one out there in the world. We are so fortunate that she did not have Cystic Fibrosis that runs in our family.  I better thank my lucky angles for protecting her.

Hope all is well with your children and that they are doing the best that they can.

Take care,

Karen

I think it's great she had the testing today and is on her way to getting some additional help through speech therapy.   Nice that he pointed out she's doing well with signing.  I'd like to start teaching Lauren some sign language.

By the way, you need to update your avie, you're so much smaller in "real life."

Thanks Kristy, we can help you with some beginning sign. Linda Hunt-jaro.... is much better, her daughter is deaf.  But anytime you want to learn some of the easy ones we know  or how we use them, I would be happy to meet you somewhere.  Hey what size does Lauren wear, we have clothes/shoes that Nemi has outgrown.  Would you be interested???

Karen....I am glad to know nothing is wrong with Nemi's hearing. That is a blessing for sure!!

She will progress and catch up in no time. She is a smart little girl and she knows what she wants. She will do great with a little coaching.

You are a good grandmother and Laurie is a great mom. This will all work out.

Hugs back to Nemi and you and Laurie too.....connie d

(((Karen)))

I've seen a few babies in my time go through this and quite honestly, for them to determine this at Nemi's age is wonderful, as she will have an advantage by Laurie getting her started now.

She is a wonderful little girl and who's amazing health & energy, I know, can sometimes be challenging at times, but all the Glory & Honor we must praise!
