Surgery was a success.  Great experience far better than I expected.  I am now on purees and curious if any of you have favorite puree ideas as chicken and fat free gravy is already getting boring.   Thank you again to the Maple Grove support crew for all of your feedback and encouragement.

Hey Sandy, glad surgery went well and you're home dining on purees.  I posted the other day that I used bean & bacon soup or split pea w/ ham.  I also liked Hormel white chicken chili. It pureed up really smooth and had a great taste and decent protein.

Hi Sandy!

Geez, all I get are clear liquids still!  I would kill for some chicken and gravy!  That isn't for another 5 days or so.

Glad to hear it went well for you!

I cooked ground turkey w/ taco seasoning and ran it through the food processor w/ salsa.  I would mix it with refried beans, top w/ cheese, zap it in the microwave and top w/ a bit of fat free greek yogurt and taco sauce.  I also took turkey Italian sausage out of the casing and cooked and pureed it.  I mixed it w/ pureed eggs and topped w/ cheese or mixed it w/ pizza sauce and cheese.  Another favorite was pureed buffalo chicken.  The recipe is below.  I just mixed it in the food processor and stored it in the fridge.  I heated it in the micorwave when I was ready to eat it.

1 Lg can chicken (12.5 oz)
2 oz 0% fat greek yogurt
2 oz non fat cream cheese
4 tbsp Frank's Red Hot sauce
3 tbsp crumbled bleu cheese
a few shakes onion powder

So glad to hear your surgery was a success.  I can't wait to hear all about your experience with Mayo/St. Mary's and with the doctor.  Did you go on a 2 week pre-op diet?  Any words of wisdom would be great.  I visit with both the endocrinologist and Dr. Swain in 2 weeks.  I am so looking forward to hopefully setting a surgery date.  Thank you. Thank you for all of the recipes. I am making the turkey taco mush for dinner tonight.

Mary,

I can tell you as much detail or as little as you would like.  To answer your above questions, Mayo does not do a  pre-op diet.  Only requirement is light dinner night before (sandwich and soup was the example and what I did) and for Dr. Swain, he requires a bowel prep.  Kendrick doesn't require this and I asked my internist why I was so lucky (haha) and he said its best if there is ever a complication and even if it wasn't a requirement, he would do it and shower with a special anticeptic soap from the pharmacy to cut down on any potential infection so I followed his advice.  Who are you seeing in endo?

You do not know your operation time until the night before...call their number at 8:15 and get your time to appear at St. Mary's.  Mine was 5:45am and surgery was at 8.  I was the first of 3 surgeries that day.  I have more info on my blog that I just did for my own memory. I will open it up to you if you want to read it but remember, I was on narcotics while rambling....I mean writing.

One other note is that whatever you weighed at your last visit to Mayo is what you should weigh (or weigh less) when you return in two weeks if you want a surgical date soon.  They will keep moving consults out into the future until your weight is stabalized and close to the weight you were at your last visit.  At least that is what they told me.  Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the information.  My endo's name is Dr. Maria Collazo-Clavell at Mayo.  Back in February during my visit she told me that I could stay at my current weight or lose weight but could not gain any weight.  I would like to follow your blog if that is OK with you.  Any info you are willing to share is greatly appreciated.  Thank you. Kelly
