Gave myself my first B12 Injection Today

I had to go in and have an appointment with the injection nurse today to learn to give myself a B12 injection.

PIECE OF CAKE!  She was pretty shocked at how assertive I was about giving myself the shot.  I was shocked when it didn't even hurt.  That is a pretty big needle to shove in your leg all the way.

Anyhooo... To those of you considering giving yourself the injection - it really is no biggie...

Good to hear! I just had my first injection but had my neighbor do it for me - she will help me next month as I want to do it myself, too.

Sue - I asked the injection nurse if there was a once a month injection I could do for Calcium and she laughed..

Wouldn't that be GRAND?

Good job, woman!  I've been reading and watching video's about all the ways to get the nutrients post WLS folks need.

I haven't even thought about that sort of thing yet.  (Too premature)  If I get to that point, I'm not sure what I'll do.  I gave myself Heprin shots when I was on bed rest for 30 weeks during my pregnancy with my 4 year old and I had to also take my blood sugar and do insulin shots too.  Then for the past year straight I've done insulin and blood sugar.  It might be nice to be done with the poking, but I may not be able to handle all the vitamins, so...

Geez.  I think I'll put off the thought for my approval letter.  It may be a moot point and I will have hurt my brain for nothing.  :o)

LJ- Don't waste a single moment to research, research, research!

Be a positive thinker - not a negative stinker ...    You're going to get approved

Sounds like you won't have a problem at all with the needles.  That is amazing what you have had to do.  I bet you won't miss all that when those problems stop after surgery!

Oh My Gosh!  I hadn't even thought about it that way.  Stinkin thinkin sure does sneak up on us when we least expect it.  I was just trying not to get my hopes all up... just in case, but that's negative isn't it?  Why not get my hopes up???  Sigh.  I'll try to do better.  All things point to getting approved at this point.

Yes, I've had a total of 50 weeks complete bed rest and we lost a child who was 1 week old (4 months early).  None of it was cool and I say, no wonder I gained weight.  Then with PCOS and insulin resistance, I kept what I gained.  Nice...LOL

Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm so sorry for your loss, LJ.  Our second son was stillborn at 28 weeks, so I have some idea of what you went through.  Sounds like you're doing all the right things to get yourself healthy!  Keep up the good work!

LJ- First, sorry about your 1 week old baby. That's horrible! I lost a son when I was 38 weeks pregnant a few years ago. The only thing more devistating I think would be to lose a child that was already on the outside.

I've given myself 1 b12 shot and need to grow a set in order to do it again.  I've given myself insulin while I had GD, and Ovidrel while trying to concieve. Those were pieces of cake to me compared to the b12 in the leg.  Still, doing that is a whole lot easier than messing with a daily sublingual. Although I do take a sublingual in addition 4 days a week.

You seem like you're gathering a wealth of knowledge pre-op. Keep it up!

So should I call my PCP to set this up????

I don't know when I should start the B 12 shots either.

You used your leg?  I find it much easier to use my stomach.  Of course, it helps that the skin is still numb from my c-sections!  I don't know, is that cheating???
