I got the "you have lost enough" comment today

I have had a few different comments from people. It all boils down to about the same types of comments, just different angles.

When people make such comments to me, I smile and tell them oh, I have passed the Dr. goal, I am working on my personal goal. That stops them even if only for a short time, then they finally will question me as to what my goal is.

I know my goal may sound bad to them, as they only hear the numbers. They don't realize what we WLS people have to go through to reach those goals. The fact that our bones are more dense, our loose skin weights in added pounds, so many factors, the list could go on and on.

When I tell people how much I weight, what I want to get down to, their jaws drop. My new line is "I have either 3 pounds or 13 pounds left to go". They take that number with an "oh, ok" as if that is magic to them. Maybe it is,who knows. As long as they are satisfied with that answer and stay off my back, I am happy LOL

Cheers to everyone on all our hard work, reaching goals, setting goals, jumping through the hoops to get WLS, waiting for answers, it is all in the process along the way and enjoying life once again.

You look fantastic in your pics!  Congratulations!  Another way to think about it is to focus on your BMI rather than your weight.  I think I read that women should have a BMI between 20 - 25, which can be a significant weight range.  I know that when I was close to the lower end of the BMI scale, I looked and felt too thin.  I'm at 25 now, and look ok, but would like to lose 5-10 so I'm more in the middle fo the range.  Focusing on the BMI could go along with your "doctor is monitoring my health" reply because maintaining a "healthy" BMI reduces the risk of a lot of health conditions.  When I started getting the "you're too thin" stuff it was frustrating, but when I talked BMI, etc. people backed off.

Jess,

I also agree with what Kelly F. said......

Also, You will know when you've lost enough.....Your body will know when to stop also......

I feel people get jealous, and start throwing out things, like you've lost enough, etc.....

Take care, Kelly

I so know what your saying~ I have gotten that several times and everytime someone says that too me I seriously think they are crazy! LOL  I am 5'7" and 202lbs still Obese by the lovely BMI thing and could seriously lose 40lbs easily.  I have truly seen people that have lost too much but I know that I am not one of them!  It does really get to you though, makes you look yoursef over and wonder if they are seeing something you aren't or if the scales wrong or whatever! I know my collar bone sticks out and bones in my wrist's and hands but wearing a 14 is certainly not too skinny in my opinion!   Thanks for the message it's good to see we all have to deal with difficult people!  Kristi

I have gotten that from members of my church family...I grew up in that church and they have only known me as a fat girl, and now they see the new me...they are proud of my accomplishment, but worried that I am getting "too thin", "looking gaunt", etc.  They tell my mom this, who passes along those comments to me, and then she worries too...crazy.

All I say, is that I am under a doctor's supervision and he is happy with where I am, my bloodtests show that all of my "levels" are in the good range and that I am still on the low end of the "overweight" range on the BMI scale.  I explain about the dense/heavy bones & muscles from carrying around all that extra weight and tell them what I actually weigh, and they are amazed...they would never guess that I weighed that much.

I feel, for the most part, that it is concern from these people (older ladies that look at me as another daughter of theirs) and not jealousy, so I just try to aleviate their concerns.

Thankfully, I have medical people in my family, so they understand that I am following a Dr's procedure/plan and that the Dr will help me if I get too far afield....

Best of luck with you on your replies...there are some good suggestions here!

Say "Thank You" I am just working on making myself the healthiest I can be.  My Mom said that to me when I weighed 180lbs and it made me realize how no offense but fat people skew reality. I mean I was by no means skinny and still considered obese according to the BMI charts. Do what you feel is best for you and your body everyone else will follow suit or fall out of your way.

Good Luck,

Broom

It depends on how tall you are/frame size.  Your 179 lbs isn't the same as someone who has always weighed 179 lbs.  It is like being that weight, you shouldn't fit into size 12 pants, but one can!  Your bones add alot of weight, having to carry around our heavy bodies for years.

I don't know what you look like (I'd like to meet you though!).  Sometimes people are so shocked by your weight loss, they are concerned that you have lost too much.  Sometimes your body has that "gaunt" look because the face has lost too much weight too fast.  It works itself out later.

If you want to keep going, do it!  If you have some really honest friends or relatives, ask them for their opinion.

Otherwise, be happy with yourself.  You have made it!
