How do you reply to someone who thinks you shouldn't eat something

So I'm down 22lbs since surgery.. down 28lbs total... doing great protein wise and okay with liquids.

Yesterday I had a treat of ONE.. mind you one... Special Dark Hershey miniature. we are allowed these simple pleasures after all...

So I walked by my coworker's office.. and I was almost verbally attacked by her over me having a piece of chocolate... policed about nutrition, if you will.

How do you reply when this happens to you? I was very taken aback and put off. Mind you, this came from a woman who several months ago was diagnosed diabetic, and verbally told us she's in denial and is ignoring it. She eats massive amounts of carbs and sweets, and is always eating in her office, and not healthy. So she is the last person who should be telling me what I can and can't eat.  Nice huh?

I have every right to have a piece of chocolate.. I haven't even had one since surgery. Its within nutritional guidelines for sugar and fat allowances AND I was above and beyond my protein requirements for the day yesterday.

I was my first experience with someone doing this to me... and I need to know how to come back and respond to them. I was ready to ***** slap the woman!

Who says you owe her an explanation? I would simply walk away. Shrug your shoulders and walk away. Sometimes saying nothing is all it takes. If you feel the need to say something, tell her "I hear ya".

Or offer her one next time!

Tell her to mind her own business, you know what you can eat and don't need the food police on your back.

You have gotten all good responses.

I'd add that "I didn't have WLS to never have a piece of chocolate again."  You have to live in this world and there is no room in your life for the food police....unless you ask for it.

While you don't OWE her an explanation, If it were me, I'd put a stop to any future comments by explaining that you need XYZ amount of protein a day and that it's ok to have a small treat here and there.  I'd also say "Let's make a deal.  I won't comment on what you eat, you don't comment on what I eat."

Being recently diagnosed w/ diabetes, she's probably jealous that your plan allows for a treat, maybe hers doesn't.

I'm at the same place you are, Stacy, and I found out yesterday that I wasn't invited to my twin brothers b-day dinner because "you can't eat anyway".  I've just decided to tell people Thanks for your concern, but I have my big girl panties on and I'll just have to think for myself".
Good grief, do people think some of our brains were removed?

Best of luck to you . . . .I got a dark Dove bar and have had one square a day. . .usually after the damn protein drink!

If you decide that any response is necessary, you might say:  "This small treat is within my dietary plan for both carb and sugar intake, so I am enjoying the hell out it, if you don't mind."  or, if you are feeling peckish:  "So, when did you get your food police badge?"

I'd just look her in the eye and say "Well, who are you to tell me how to eat? People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

Please spay and neuter your pets!
