How do you reply to someone who thinks you shouldn't eat something
Jeez, I swear I deal with this topic almost every day with my husband. If it's not "you shouldn't eat that" it's "well, if it caused you to throw up then you didn't chew it well enough". Sometimes I want to smack him!!! I can chew the hell out of something and have problems (main culprit being hamburger meat) but he will STILL insist I didn't chew it well enough. Why do men think they're right all the time?!
Usually I ignore him or explain to him that just because I chew the hell out of something it doesn't guarantee my pouch will tolerate it. I have eaten dark chocolate and I FREAKIN ADORE IT!! But I know one piece is my limit and that's all it takes to satiate me. If my coworkers ask about me eating a Dove chocolate or an M&M I explain that it's JUST ONE instead of the handful(s) that would have been consumed in the past. Plus, they're always eating pop tarts, doughnuts, bars, and drinking regular soda anyway.

Doesn't it drive you NUTS when people do that? I have had to deal with it a bit, but not too bad...except with my mother, who will ask if I can eat such & so, or if I should have that much this or that...and then turns around and asks me if I want some dessert (cake, pie, whatever...).
Now, it is my fiancee...he will look at me when we are eating and say "don't over do it sweetie"....GRRRR...makes me want to eat more...just to show him, but then I get sick, and it shows me! You would think I would learn after 2 years of this! The brain still has issues and my eyes are still too big for my pouch....crazy!
Yes, chocolate is allowed, but you will need to know your limits...and yes, Dark Chocolate USUALLY goes better than milk chocolate, but everyone is different....I can handle 8 regular or 10 Peanut M&Ms a day...sad that I know the daily limit on those, isn't it?

I've been pretty silent on the boards lately, but after seeing some of the comments such as "I will be able to eat chocolate again.", I had to respond.
First, let me get this off my chest. Someone who is only 1 month out of surgery should NOT be eating chocolate and testing the pouch. I don't care if it falls into the sugar/fat allowances or not. It is way too soon to be testing your system. If you are not drinking or stuffing protein in the pie hole, don't eat it. In order for your tool to work, you need a healthy dose of fear. I am almost 3 years out and although I do test my system, I still have the fear of dumping, fear of overeating, etc. I am not perfect for sure, but at 6 months out, I will still afraid to have certain foods.
to those who are new or awaiting surgery - you may NOT be able to eat chocolate for a long while. It all depends on how your body processes the sugar. Some people who are years out still can't have much sugar, while others can. However, at any time, your pouch can turn on you and say "ah ha!" It shows you who the boss is.
I am fully prepared to be ***** slapped, but at 3 years out, I feel I have a little more experience and wisdom to share.
