I turned in my scale today

I'm 5 weeks out and have been obsessed with:

Why isn't the scale moving?  It's been almost 2 weeks!
Am I eating too much?
Am I not eating enough?
My clothes are looser, or are they?  Am I just "wishing" it to be so?

I'm SICK and TIRED of second guessing myself.  I am sick of that friggin voice that tells me "What if the surgery won't work for you.. maybe this is all you will lose-nothings ever worked before"

Every time I go into the bathroom there it is, my nemesis.  (insert old western whistling song here when there is a showdown)  I can no sooner not step on it, than to not breathe.

So today I made a HUGE step towards being "emotionally healthy."  I brought my scale in to a co-worker that has been amazingly supportive in this journey... Then we went into the womens locker room and I hopped on it for a baseline weigh in with her.. The scale was UP 5 pounds.. but I have jeans on and a sweater and it's PMS time.

I told her I will weigh in again on the 14th which will be 2 days short of 2 months for me.

Much to my surprise.. SHE then got on the scale and it registered 162 pounds.. She is a tiny little blonde thing.. I was absolutely astounded.. then she said "Things are not always as they seem Stephanie".   And then, I walked away and left my scale in her care..

I feel better knowing I can't obsess about what the number is today.  I think I will be happier in the long run.

I'm adding in some strength training classes next week at LifeTime.  I've never tried a class and I am really nervous.. but the NEW Stephanie tries things and then decides if she doesn't like them.  She doesn't hold back because she's worried she may not be able to hack it.

The new me, is not going to do psychological warfare with myself any more!

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

Hey that is awesome!  I might have to use that little trick when I start to plateau again.

I had to do the 6 months of meeting with a nutritionist thing before surgery, and I lost 10 lbs the first month, 5 lbs the next, and then NOTHING for the next 4 months even though I started working out with a trainer!  Despite the scale staying in one place for 4 months, I felt myself getting much stronger and healthier, with a vastly improved lung capacity.  I think that if you feel yourself improving physically, your mind will follow.

We are practically in the same boat, except I am not obseessed with the scale....but I was at first, because it was just rolling off.  I am 5 weeks out and my weight hasn't budged in 1 week......I can't wait until it starts to roll off again!  I second guess myself too....I think that since everything else hasn't worked, maybe this isnt either, or maybe I am eating wrong, but it is all a mystery...I will just give it some time.......Don't worry, we'll make it!!!!

The "NEW" Stephanie  ROCKS!!!

I'm really proud of you, and I hope OTHER newbies follow your lead!  The scale is NOT your friend right now - all it does for most people is cause ANXIETY!!!  And GOD BLESS your co-worker for assisting you..  "Things are not always as they seem..."?  YAY HER!!!

I have to say, the 'old western whistling song' comment?  I'm crackin' up!  I can just hear it...  "OOO-EEE-ooo-EEE-oooooo......   wah-WAH-wahhhh......"

Methinks that, as long as you follow The Rules, you'll be pretty tickled come 8/14!!!

Awesome!!!  I'm getting a little braver as time goes by too.

I had surgery December 11th. February 1st I agreed not to weigh myself the entire month. I stuck to it, and I even had it in my basement. No cheating.  It wasn't that hard not to weigh either.  That was a shock!  You'll be SO happy and excited when you get a double digit drop on the 14th.

Congrats on being "free" from that rotten scale.

I have never been a weigh in type of gal ( prior to surgery) LOL.
Since day one I have weighted myself almost every day. I step up, look and step off. I actually could give a rip what it says, I just want to see that I am not going up or retaining fluids. My surgeon is actually the one who got me started on that LOL

I have seen people obsess over the scale and it is so real, even if people say "oh come on, how can it be" It is!

Any ways, no going to the gym and jumping on their scale, no going to walmart or such and trying out the scales they sell, no stopping by the fire station to say hi and use their scale, no using the scales for bulk mail at the post office, no going to a fair and having that corny guy guess your weight... no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Enjoy the eve!

Stephanie - You are a wise woman!   I had surgery just a few days before you and I am hopping on a scale many times a day!  I should be focusing on loss to date instead of having all  the same second thoughts and doubts you mentioned.   I, too, wonder if I am the "special" one that won't lose like I should.   So, following your lead, I'm cutting my scale loose, too.

You aren't imaginng looser clothes.  I haven't lost anytthing for a week but a friend said today that I looked better than last weekend and I was down 2 sizes when I shopped today.   Didn't buy anything, just checking to see if the tool was working.   Yippee!   It is.

Thanks to all for the comments and encouragement to the newbies!

Way to go! That's exactly what you got to do... it's hard sometimes, but well worth it in the end!
