Anyone have Dr Benn or Dr Lauguna at Fairview

I will be having my RNY surgery on 11/19 and my surgeon is Dr. Laguna.  I had my pre-surgery visit with him & he's very friendly, I was able to ask any and all questions I had, & he explains everything in great detail.  I can update you more, how the surgery goes, after it's completed next week, but I've heard he's great with follow-up at the hospital too.

From what I've heard all 3 of them come highly recommended, so I don't think there's really any one of them better than another.  I knew they all were great surgeons so I ended up making my decision on which surgeon to use based on what days of the week they do surgery (I wanted to have my surgery on a Thursday so there were only 2 surgeons out of the 3 that did that).  Dr. Laguna does surgery 4 days a week, which made him more available when it came time for picking a surgery date.

I had Dr Pierce and he was absolutely WONDERFUL!  His knowledge, bed side manner, compassion, willingness to explain again and again what was going to happen and what happened....all WONDERFUL!  I have heard many great things about all 3 surgeons at FV....the hospital it self was also great!

I had Dr. Benn and he was amazing!!  He answered all my questions and reassured me I would be fine.  The whole staff there was amazing..........

I too had my RNY w/ Dr. Benn and would agree w/ everything posted here, wonderful surgeon and I was taken care of well afterwards!! Good luck to you and your brother!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Benn was not a "touchy feeley" kinda guy - he is polite and kind, but sticks to the point and then moves on.  He doesn't shake hands, but he answered all my questions and addressed all of my fears.  I couldn't have asked for more.

If you look at his stats - they speak for themselves.. You can do a search of physicians on here and see for yourself.

I wanted the BEST surgeon, not the most "personable" one.  I chose him over Pierce and Laguna because he does more bariatric surgeries and has more experience doing RNY.

I had Dr. Pierce and couldn't have been happier - I think he's awesome. Also, the nursing staff at the Fairview SD hospital were absolutely wonderful! I think the entire WLS team through FVSD is incredible.

 Thank you everyone!  I met with Dr Benn today.  Seriously, does he have to be so skinny?!  
He was very nice (no he does not shake hands, but who wants to these days?)  Insurance paperwork now goes in for approval and I will get a date before the end of the year.

He said he was operating on Christmas Eve!  Not sure I'd be all over that though, I have 2 little ones and I'd HATE to miss Christmas morning with them.

So onward and upward I guess!

Sounds like we are on the same path.....I meet with Dr. Pierce tomorrow.  I have been going to the clinic for the last 5 months.  I chose Dr. Pierce just because he was the one that did the information session so I was familiar with him.  I have heard wonderful things about all three.  Think we chose a good clinic!  Best of luck to you!

Now you all save me a surgery date!! By the sounds of these posts.....spots are filling up fast , I am hoping to have my surgery done before the end of the year too if at all possible.
Good Luck! and give us updates on how it goes. I have mostly only heard good things about FVSD and the surgeons....and their office staff is so friendly and helpful! I wish my insurance company had more employees like that....ha ha
