Is this better?

Ok, I know I have been doing a LOT of griping lately about my food and my weight. Here's the deal. I went and got some protein powder. I bought the Isopure. It is expensive, but so far, it is the best one I have found around here. It doesn't taste to bad and it is not thick and gritty. I can not stand thick protein shakes. Yesterday I had a plain one and it wasn't to bad. Then this morning I tried the orange cream one from the recipe site I had given yesterday. It was really good. The powder alone has 50 grams per serving and I made it with 12 ounces of skim milk. The milk added extra protein. So is that better than the 15-20 I was getting? I thought so!!! I am proud of myself. It isn't that hard to drink the whole shake because it is not thick. It takes me about 2 hours to fini**** I plan on having 1 1/2 a day until I can start adding more "normal" foods. That alone will add 75 grams. I have found that I can eat cottage cheese, yogurt, any and all creamy soups, pudding, ect. I can also eat tuna as long as there is no bread. I used fat free mayonaise, pickles, and spices. It was good. Over easy eggs go down really well too. I am still having a hard time with the clear liquids. The flavored water is more than I can afford right now (considering I have 3 itty bitties to buy Christmas for). I did buy the Wal-Mart brand of flavored water and I will see how that goes. I have also found something called vitamin water by Glaceau. It is really good. Granted there is no protien in it, but it does have vitamin b and potassium in it. Oh yeah, and I know what I am getting for Christmas. Travis let me pick it out and I told him I wanted a new blender. We found one that has a regular container and he is also going to get me a personal sized cup that can be used with it. I told him I wanted a new one because my old one doesn't mix anything worth a hoot!! It is a cute little red blender with only a switch on it. None of those thousands of worthless buttons. Anyway, I had to brag a little and tell you that I got more protein in. Still upping it. but slowly!!!!

|Wow that is great you are getting more protein. I dont know how I can do it when its my turn I hate those things. Do protein shakes taste like slim fast or those shakes? If so I am doomed. Wel hope all is going good for you Kat and I will ttyl Gretta

Gretta, Some of them do taste like that. On the 15th, I am going back to GNC to get some chocolate protein powder. You can add all sorts of things to them. I want to try the chocolate peanut butter one. I also want to try a chocolate mocha one. I love chocolate and bananas too. The Isopure protein powder isn't bad at all. I too hate proein shakes. The one that I made this morning was 12 ozs. of skim milk, 2 scoops of protein powder (1 serving) and a packet of Orange Sunrise Crystal Light. When I say one packet, I am talking about the single to go packets. It tasted just like an orange julius or an orange creamsicle. It was really yummy. I am going to try the lemonade one in a little while. I am now excited about drinking the shakes. The Isopure has really helped me. It is not thick like the others. Also it offers more protein per serving, so you aren't drinking shakes all day long!!!!

Well I love orange juliuses. They are so good. Well I guess I will have fun trying new things. As in flavors of shakes. I totally feel like I am getting fatter by the day. My eating is so bad, I really need this surgery......I just wish I wasnt so scared. Gretta

Kat, When i get some of the "Unjury" protein I'll let you try it. It comes unflavored so you can add it to any kind of food. They say it mixes so easy and is not thick. Julia

Kat, I am so glad that you found the Isopure and that you like it. I have used it since surgery until just recently and still have some of it that I am using. I got started now on the ON....from Food-4-Less. It is good too, and cheaper. Now for the bad news.......I hate to burst your bubble, so don't take it that way.....but I've been taught that our bodies can only absorb around 30 grams of protein at a time. The Isopure has 25 grams of protein per scoop. So I only use 1 scoop in my shakes because why waste that second scoop if your body can't absorb it? It's to high priced to waste, right? With that being said.....I'm really glad that you are experimenting with the protein shakes. You will come up with all kinds of combinations. They are good and it is a treat for me....even this far post-op. I think the people that experiment with the shakes and try all different flavors have more success at drinking the shakes. It keeps things interesting. You keep up the good work. Wishing you the best, Glenna
