I AM SO CONFUSED!!!!
Well... I called dena at Dr. Hornbostel's office to see if they had received my paperwork, and she told me that she wasn't sure that tricare would approve me for the RNY because I am not quite 100 pounds overweight. She said that my ideal weight is 109 and I weigh 202?! So close and she says that tricare is really inforcing the 100 pounds even though my bmi is over 40. Anyway, dena said that I should make an appointment with my pcm and get another weigh in with her and get a letter about why she thinks I need the surgery. I am also getting copies of my physical therapy records(for my knee and hip) and my records from my orto. I am hoping that that will be enough. Anyway they had a cancellation and my consult is scheduled for May 2nd. I am excited and scared at the same time. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. Thank you!!!!

Dear Layla,
I know it can be so frustrating-but it sounds like you are doing everything correctly-and a good step by showing all the records from your ortho doc etc... Maybe I should send you some weights to put in your pockets and around your ankles-LOL...geez, over 7#? Thats insane! I will not only keep my fingers crossed for you, but I will lift you in prayer and pray for your approval. Please keep posting and let us know how it goes-ok? Take care and good luck!! Love, Janet
I'm with Janet, I'd send you some of my extra weight to put on your hips and belly... can you weight holding on to your purse? that should help maybe the nurse wouldn't notice? (I actually SAW someone doing that (weighing holding their purse) last time I was at Dr Hornbostels office!! can you believe that? I'd weigh at least 12lbs more if I did.
Just a thought.

Hi Layla,
I had my surgery 15 months ago. Tricare paid for it also. My BMI was 38 but I was 114lbs overweight I also had diabetis. The pcp kept telling me that tricare wouldn't pay unless my BMI was 40 or above. Come to find out if your a diabetic your BMI only had to be 35. But I did what the other lady suggested and weighted myself down so that my weight would bring my BMI up. In the end I didn't need to do that..but It worked. Tricare was wonderful they gave me no problems at all. I really think it's all in how the Dr. states your case. Good luck!
Keep us posted on what's happening and if there is anything I can do to help let me know.
Hugs,
Anna
Layla,
You could try to gain 7 pounds or do as Janet said with the weights. Your doctor won't make you get naked to weigh you. I think your elevated BMI might work especially if your PCP writes a good letter. Tell him/her how important this is to you and that your medical history is very important in the approval process. If it doesn't work then we'll try to figure out another route. Denial is not an ending, it is just the beginning of the fight!!!
Hugs and love,
Lana
