I saw a WLS done on Discovery Health last night and this was a very large lady and they did an open gastric bypass on her.  I saw that they gave her an epidural before the surgery I am wondering if they do that if you have the lap RNY? Thanks, Bev~

Dear Bev, I had the lap RNY the end of November and I did NOT have an epidural.....Was the lady you watched awake during the surgery? I had epidurals when I had my C-sections, but I stayed awake-but with the WLS-I was out. No epidural. Hope that helps some. All my love, Janet

I would imagine no epidural for the WLS. The nurse in Columbia (for the dr that is doing mine) said they do not do epidurals for any (lap or RNY-lapro). I had an epidural before my c-section as well and I was awake. :) Cheryl

The lady that was on discovery health last night was severly obese and for some reason that particular doctor felt it necessary to do an epidural as well as anesthesia. For most RNY they do not do that.
