Introducing myself and a question.

Hi all, I've been a member here since January but have just recently started adding things to my profile and blog...and not a lot at that yet.  I had posted on the Kansas board trying to find a support group local to Lawrence and got little response, then Debby D told me that I should try this one.  It makes a lot of sense since I'll be having my surgery in Sedalia.  My date is August 3rd...it was supposed to be July 31 but they called last week and asked if they could move it back. I know I need this, have educated myself pretty well as to what's going to happen but I have panic and anxiety disorder and just wonder how people who also have it have done before and after surgery.  I had surgery on my knee a couple of years ago and when I woke up in recovery I was having a panic attack.  When I told the nurse he said...no you're not.  I have told Dr. Hornbostle about it and he said he'd make sure it didn't happen again, and have told Margie in the office about it too but am still so fearful.  It's really holding me back from being excited about the surgery.  I'm anxious about the surgery of course...any semi-sane person would be.  Any input anyone has would be appreciated. Robin first of all welcome to the Missouri board. Second i had DR. Hornbostel too and if he said for you not to worry about it he has noted it in your chart im sure. He is a very good man that wants to see his patients suceed. I had surgery Aug. 14 of last year. so we will be August mates lol.  When you go for your pre ops let them all know what you have said about the panic attacks. I loved the hospital it is small enough that they really care about their patients.  Be sure and come here often and im sure that some one of us can help you with any and all questions. If not we will find someone that can.

Hi, Robin! Glad you took my advice and posted on the MO Board.  Missouri "Peeps" are the best around!  I'm excited about getting to meet you Thursday night at the support group in Olathe.  My dh (sometimes dear and sometimes damn hubby) may be able to come with me.  Either way I am planning on attending. Once again, welcome to the Missouri Board! Debbie D.

Hi Robin, I am new on here myself and wanted to welcome you to the board. I am sure you will find everyone on here very friendly and helpful. I too have panic attacks but since I have been on paxil I haven't had any panic episodes for a long time. That is just the most miserable way to live.. Dr Hornbostel is a wonderful and caring Doctor..I think you will be very pleased with him..Good luck on you journey...

Robin! WElCOME!! Hey I see Debbie has recruited you to the Olathe Supprt group. I recruited her so YEAH!! I'm 8 days out from surgery and will see you Thursday!! I think getting support from other pationts and knowing what is truely going to happen will help you a lot.  I know there is also a support group in Topeka but you would have to look up Tallgrass in Topeka and find out when and where. I'm not sure.  I'll do some searching.  Because I am moving back to Topeka in less then a month.  I post on the MO instead of KS since MO is where I had my surgery and its a lot better. I guess I should peak in on KS eveyonce in a while to find people like you. Best wishes! We are going to fill the room on
Grace & Peace,
