How long before any of you ate meat?
Hello gals and guys,
I was just wondering how long it was until ground up chicken and pork or fish for that matter sat ok in the tummy? I am 4 weks post op and am down 44 pounds. I read in my binder that I can start to try grond meat, so I did and boy was that a mistake!!!! It was the first time I threw up. It did not hurt to throw up but the eating of the ground meat was like it was stuck in my chest. OUCH!! I have since gave into the notion of being a vegeterian and never eating meat again. Will this ever pass? I feel great otherwise. I have as appointment the 2nd with Doc. Hornbostel I just love that guy, and will discuss with him also. I also have to get a b12 shot. I have given b12 in my nursing career however I have never had one. Do they hurt? I know they go in the butt. I am a big wimp when it comes to needles. I can give a shot, IV or PICC line however I am wimpy when it comes to me getting a shot! Go figure. Love and hugs to you all and have a great labor day weekend!!!

If you are going to be a vegertarian you will have to get your protein from protein shakes or drinks and that means at least 3 of them a day maybe even 4 unless you want to eat beans 3 times a day for the rest of your life lol
I am now two years out and still do have trouble but my sister who is 6 mos behind me eats steak and anything else. it i think depends on the person and their pouch ....it isnt that important to me so i drink my shakes every day and go on. lol i have found out that food doesnt interest me most of the time and i very seldom get hungry. i really do eat to live not live to eat anymore. crazy thought isnt it?

Good luck to you.
I also did the vegetarian thing for a year when I was in high school. I was very healthy and lost weight. Wish I hadn't let that boyfriend talk me out of it.

Hi Kerri
I am 7 weeks post op and I can not eat meat yet...I have tried tuna and shrimp and both were a no. I am allowed to eat hamburger now but am afraid to try it yet. I can eat deli meats with no problem. I hope I will be able to eat meats someday...as I truely hate, hate, hate the protein drinks but I choke them down as I have to....
blessings,

I looked back at my book and my dr recommends waiting 6 months out for red meats...chickens (very moist) and cut up very fine for week 5-6 and seafood at that point too!
I remember taking the tiny little bites and chewing until I thought my jaw would drop off! lol
You may have taken too big of a bite and not chewed it well enough or just wait a couple more weeks and try something again...remember small and slow
I love meat and have no problems eating whatever I want like my sis said, I still cut everything into tiny pcs tho...and chew chew chew! Good luck
GOD is my ROCK! SUGAR ![]()
As for the meat. Well obveously every surgeon has their own rules which vary a great deal. I can eat cream of chicken with the bits if chicken. I tried cream of shrimp and the shrimp made me get gas and the ****s. I have had some chicken stirfry here at home and had to eat all but not the chicken chunks. I am sure I got some but had no issues. I hear alot try tuna, or even the chicken in the pouches for like chicken salad sandwiches. Some have liked corn beef hash. (dog food) lol
