I have had depression and was diagnosed with bi-polar years ago .... Now, I am not really needing the anti depressants as much as I did. Also, I went through a depression when I was first out of surgery, but the last month I havent been on my meds and I feel "NORMAL" I honestly, havent been on the medicine like I am supposed to for about the last 6 months and this was really hard with alot of ups and downs, but I am really happy and feel like a new person. Has anyone experienced the gastric bypass helping their mental health ? I am much more positive and my friends and family say its a more pleasant Lori. :) I also have noticed I am losing focus, forgetful and a little spacey.. I forget things very fast. Or lose things, forget where I laid something down or who just called? Thank god for caller id. I am just wondering if anyone has had any change mentally either positive or negitive? I am going to the Dr. to see if there is something I can do about the lack of focusing today.

Thank goodness I am not alone. I have noticed lately that I am forgetting things. It is really a strange sensation..but last night I forget my nieces name. I had to call my granddaughter and ask her name. I felt so stupid but it really scared me..I thought something was really wrong..so it is good to know that it may be a side effect of this surgery and hopefully someone know how to correct it. Probably taking another pill..
I also feel like I don't need my paxil anymore. I have been on it for so long I am going to ask my doc if I can get off it. I feel wonderful, haven't felt this good in many years.
Hope someone has some answers to this problem..

You also might consider that the fact that you feel wonderful is a sign that the Paxil is working.  Don't go off without talking to your physician first.

Hello, Iam so glad someone has brought this up...Dr.H and I had a talk once that I was so depressed and aggitated...I went off on everyone and that isnt me at all..I was cursing like a sailor and everything. I did remember in the seminars not just Dr. H's but others too, that so many months out you get this...Then my sister did.....Its normal is what I was told. It went away after awhile..I guess its your mind catching up to your weight loss...Everyone is different but, It went away after awhile Im sure it will with you all...BUT, I would get ahold of your PCP anyways just to be on the safe side...God Bless Craig
