I am a reader. This summer I've spent a lot of time at our local public library. I've read all the books written by John Grissom all of the books written by Nicholas Sparks , all the books written by Fannie Flagg, all of the books written by Richard Paul Evans. I'm now looking for something else to read. Nicholas Sparks is about as racey as I get. I much prefer rated G books. PG-13 books are okay if it's mild. Does anyone have any suggested authors for me to read. Church books are wonderful but the books have to be available at our public library (unfortunately church books are not). I hate just choosing any author at the library because I don't want to read **** and smut. I much prefer recommended authors from people who are familiar with them. Speaking of authors - our library has a lot of books by Nora Roberts. Has anyone read her? Can I trust her writing? Thanks for the suggestions. Melody

I have lots of friends who love Nora Roberts. Myself I have never read her books. If you like True Crime I would recommend Anne Rule and Jack Olsen. Jack Olsen wrote a very god book called "Doc, The Rape of Lovell". It was about the town of Lovell WY and a Dr. there that treated all the ladies in the Church. When I read the book it made me homesick for Idaho because all of those women sounded like all of my friends in my old ward in Idaho. Anne Rule is very good, lots of her stuff is written about the Pacific Northwest. I have gotten so I am not so wild about Ficton anymore. How is things in Idaho, I bet it is hot there we have been in the 3 digits for several days? That is hot for the Portland area. Guess who I got a hug from the other night????????? Bonnie Parkin. She was in Hillsboro Friday night and spoke at my daughter's stake so I went along. It was 108 in Hillsboro that day. Bonnie said" I might as well be back in Utah". It was just great to be in her presents for a while. I am on a major stall as far a weight goes. You know I had surgery on May 10th and I lost 26lbs in 3 weeks. Then all of a sudden around June 1st it all came to a halt and I have had to chip the last 7lbs off. So 33lbs total. I read all of these posts on the main board about people who have had surgery on the same date as mine or after and they have lost 48-60lbs. Maybe they had more to lose than I did or something. I think my BMI is 35 or 38 I can't remember. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? I am very frustrated. If I had not had the surgery and this was in the old days I would be back to eating what ever I wanted and having Ice Cream every night before I went to bed. Now I can't even be comforted by FOOD. I would love your suggestions. Barbara Vancouver WA

Melody, I used to read Nora, I love her books she tells great stories. But the only problem is that they are definatly not pg-13. They are R rated and some I might even rate more then that. I finally quit reading them because I felt so guilty. I tried to justify that the stories were so good and I could just skip the bad parts but then I realized that if Christ was in the room I would not want to read them so I figured that it was time to give up my Nora books. I dont have any good suggestions for who else to read but just wanted to share my Nora experience. Good luck finding someone else to read. Lynn

Thank you Lynn, That's what I wanted to know. I used to read Fern Michaels. She tells a good story but she uses the Lord's name in vain a lot. I tried to ignore it and read past it and then I told myself that I didn't want that even though I was ignoring it I was still putting it in my memory bank. I decided that I was breaking one of the Lord's ten commandments by reading those words so I gave her up. I appreciate you telling me about Nora Roberts before I found out the hard way. Melody

Melody, I being a true bibliophile can name several authors. My lates read was a series by Bruce Alexander, The Sir John Fielding Mysterys. There are 11 total, I started at one, have read the eleventh, have only missed one in the whole group. They are full of real historial characters, lot of deep moral thinking, etc. Truly and enjoyable read. This is just the most recent read of mine, I could go on and on and on. Linda Woods

Visit D.I. for bargain books by LDS authors. Or ... ask at your ward library if they have books you can borrow. I'm an assistant librarian at church and since our bldg is also the stake center we have quite a selection of books (many out of print) and videos/DVDs and we have a check out system similar to the public library. Per your suggestion, I went to the library and checked out "At home in Mitford". I should be finished with it today and will go back to the library and check out another Mitford book. You were absolutely correct - they are GREAT. Thank you for your suggestion. Melody

Daph, I just finished reading the second novel in the Mitford series "A light in the window". Our library opens in a couple hours and I'll go down there and check out the next book. I'm lucky that our library seems to have all the books in the series. They are enjoyable. I wish they would focus on Dooley more. Father Tim and Cynthia are acting at this point like they are in junior high or something - each getting their feeling hurt over the littlest thing. I am enjoying them. They are a bit addictive. What if anything are YOU reading now? Happy reading Melody
