5th year appointment

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd share....I went for my 5 year appoinment yesterday. Good news and a little bad...not real bad though. I weigh exactly what I did at my last year appointment. YEAH! 111 lbs. My fat percentage is down 3 more points and is now 25%. Two years ago it was at 36%. YIkes! But I'm happy that even though my weight is the same, my actual fat content has continued to drop. That means that my muscle has increased and I'm leaner over all. The bad thing is that my protein level is low....not dangerously, but low. I'm not sure if everyone knows this, but the protein level takes a long time indicate what it actually is after WLS. I take in consume 100 or more grams a day, but its still low. I don't want to increase calories...so I'm trying to figure out how to get that level back to normal. My cholesterol has dropped from 265 last year to 169 this year. I have the hereditary type problem and it is usually high. I can't take lipitor or anything like that because I have fibromalygia and it is greatly impacted by those type drugs. I started taking Cholestoff from Costco about 6 months ago and I guess it really works! Everything else went well. My doc might be putting a poster size picture of me in his office window as an advertisement for his practice. He was so thrilled to see how well I've done in 5 years. He told me that I don't look like I was ever fat. That made me very happy. Christy

Sounds like after 5 years you are doing well. I love to hear those kinds of stories. Has your Son come home from his mission yet? Barbara Hansen Vancouver WA

Christy, if consuming 100 gms of protein a day isn't enough, I'm at a loss at to what else you could do. Are you maybe not getting the right kind of protein? What did your doctor suggest? You could always go to a protein shake. BTW - congratulations on maintaining things so well for the past 5 years. You realy are a poster child for this surgery. I'm 2 and 1/2 years out and I have to admit that I haven't been back to my surgeon for a check. For me it's a $$ issue. You do look wonderful Christy. Congratulations again. May we all be able to boast the same success. Melody

Christy, what an amazing five year result. And to think your body doesn't even show the wear and tear. That certainly isn't going to happen to us old grannies, but am so glad for you that you did this while young enough to have not done so much damage to your earthly body. Which reminds me, that now that we've had this surgery, do you suppose we have revised what I body will appear like in the next life? Strange things cross my mind sometimes. I always assumed or was told, that we will appear at out best, which until now would be when I was in my twenties. Really not important either way, just one of the weird things that came to mind recently. Linda Woods

I emailed Linda...but I have to remind you that I am nearly 54 years. I have 7 grand kids with another on the way. I'm not old, but a granny nevertheless. I've had some plastics done but arms are somewhat scary. I'm glad I've had the success I've had...but it continues to be work and effort. After 5 years that I know that this is a true lifetime committment and lifestyle change is the key. Understanding that you have to change your thinking...the body changes but I'm more amazed by the mindset that has changed since 5 years ago. I now take the responsibility and don't blame other things. It is in my control.
