Hi Michelle and welcome to this board. We always like to see new faces here. My name is Melody and I live in Idaho. I had a lap RNY in March of 2004. I've lost over 140 lbs. I'm now stable at my goal weight of 120 lbs. I feel WONDERFUL. This surgey is something you need to spend a lot of time in fasting and prayer to decide what is best for you. There can be risks (although they are rare) but they can occur. This is NOT an easy way out. You will have to watch what you eat and drink for the rest of your life. Michelle, it's good to see you here. Please feel free to vent, ask questions or just chat. Share your successes and your frustrations. As you can see from the dates on the posts, we go through spurts of being really talkative and sometimes weeks of being very quiet. Good Luck, Melody

Hi Michelle, My name is Kaye Atkinson. I'm from Brigham City, Utah, about 60 miles north or Salt Lake. I had laproscopic RNY almost 4 years ago. Good luck with your decision. It is hard to decide but well worth it. Have a great day. Kaye

thanks Kaye for the warm welcome. im still at the starting gate as far as decission goes, but almost convinced its the only way to loose the weight and defeate the diabetes. i have been plus size as long as i can remember. i was a chubby kid at 6, even. so, this person i have become is VERY comfortable to me to be...but NOT at all healthy enough to be a good steward to heavenly fathers temple. if i were in fact a REAL temple, id say id have been as bad as the one Jesus had righteous anger about when he saw the tradesmen and barterers outside. imagine what the INSIDES looked like if that was the condition on the outside! heavenly father ISNT very happy with me and the condition of this temple, hes allowed me charge over. i still have time to make the temple nice and beautiful...and worthy of the spirit it holds within. so, thats the plan... right now, im looking for ppl to help in that quest. i was recommened by my physician to see a GB surgeon he knows about...i have my first pre-op support seminar in march for that. (thats like meeting the contractor to over-haul the temple. i want it to be remodled!) the first step----GUTTING the interiors of all the stuff NOT holy to it...GBS will do that. kaye, again thanks for the comment! hi melody, thanks for the reply! i realize alot of change has to occur to make this work if i am in fact aproved for the surgery. but lack of change will...kill me in the end. i weigh: 290 right now, recently lost 5 pounds due to being sick and watching my caloric intake to some degree. i feel im ready, all i need is the aproval and im set to go. of curse the battery of tests as well need to be preformed, but im ready...ive wanted something like this for a few years, hubby has a job that has insurance that covers this, and it may be the ONLY time i can get it done... thanks again for the comment! Michelle, you come and visit any time. My husband graduates OSU-Okmulgee April 20th, and I'm planning a big ol celebration for the 21st...we'll be barbecuing like crazy and just having a good time! A lot of our member friends will be there...including the ones who made it possible for me to have my surgery (3 years tomorrow...woo hoo!). I would love for you and your family to join us...I'm being totally serious!!! Daph

Michelle, I just wanted you to know there are more WLS choices out there then the ones you listed. I had the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) and there is also the DS (Duodenal Switch). The VSG is restrictive only and the DS is restrictive and malabsorptive. I was not comfortable with a intestinal bypass, so I had the VSG. I wanted you to know there were others available just in case you didn't know. VSG Message board: http://obesityhelp.com/forums/VSG/a,messageboard/board_id,5463/ DS Message board: http://obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/a,messageboard/board_id,5357/ Good luck in your journey, Tina

Hi Michelle and welcome! I'm a little late to the party. I don't check in very often. I agree with Tina ... there are other surgery options. I had the Duodenal Switch (DS) 2 1/2 years ago with surgeon Dr. Gary Anthone in Omaha Nebraska. I've lost just about 100 lbs. I live in So Calif. Born in the Church ... (my family history goes back to pioneer heritage) and my DH was baptized one week after we were married back in 1979. We have 2 daughters 17 and 22 years old. Yeah, both think they don't need church. Oh well, they'll come around when they are ready. Best of luck in your weight loss journey. Laurie
