Tummy Tucks and um . . . fixer-uppers for women?

Just wondering how people feel about getting the plastic surgery to fix that excess skin problem. It's such a common thing following WLS, but do you think it's justifiable given the prophet's advice on plastic surgery.

The extra skin can actually cause a health hazard - I dont think God would frown on us getting rid of a potential cancer risk by tightening up the extra skin. now I dont feel I would be completely justified doing a breast lift or something like that, but a tummy tuck is justifiable. Just my opinion. -Sherrie Aderman open RNY 3/2/04 down 37.5 lbs

Thanks for sharing Sherrie! I've been wondering about this since I started looking into WLS. I hope I get lots of feedback before my time comes. (for a tummy tuck, not death!)

I've wondered this same thing, but I decided I am for sure doing my stomach and possibly my breasts (they are looking worse than I thought htey might) darn!

I didn't know the Prophet gave any advice on plastic surgery. Interesting. I'm thinking a tt might be needed for me. I just started the insurance required diet but before I started I managed to gain another 15 pounds. (Wasn't hard to do.) Since gaining more weight I've noticed I'm getting rashes in the groin area. Sorry to be crude but that would be the reason for having a tummy tuck. Who would want a big ol' flap of skin hanging with rashes underneath? Not me. Lynda D.

I wasn't aware that the Prophet had issued any advice about plastic surgery. Where can I find this info at? Honestly, I wondered for a long long time what the shurches position on this surgery was at all. I've been contiplating it for over 2 years now. I've finally made a decision, and have advanced in my progress. I'm almost ready to set a surgery date. I will admit that my decision was made with alot of prayer and study of the surgery. I know that this is the right thing for me to do, and I know Heavenly Father approves. If in doubt, then pray. Good luck to you all! Diana Neeley

I'm so embarressed. I love to check facts and research things but I didn't do it this time. I thought I remembered hearing a couple years ago, in conference, someone discourage plastic surgery in some forms. I've looked all over the church website and can't find a lick on the subject. Shame on me. Sorry. I'm not sure what it was that I heard or why I remembered it that way, but I apologize. If anyone finds anything on it let me know, please! Oh, by the way . . . while I was reading through many, many articles I found this quote. "Will my body rule over my spirit, or will my spirit rule over my body? Will I yield to the enticings of the natural man or to the eternal man? That, brothers and sisters, is the test. We are here on the earth to develop godlike qualities and to learn to bridle all of the passions of the flesh." Nobody knows it like us! We've had to learn the hard way!

Hydi - I just found this Mormonism forum today. Several others were new to it today too, I think it would be fun for those that have visited this forum in the past to check it more regularly and maybe we can really have a nice back and forth chat. Melody
