A prayer teaching moment

Today we were vacuuming the living floor when a vital piece of the vacuum fell off. This piece was what created the suction for the vacuum. We hunted and hunted and hunted for this piece. Now this isn't a small piece, it's about the size of a large cordless phone and it's purple and gray in color. Should be easy to find right? Wrong. After hunting for this piece for over an hour (we even dug through the garbage) I took my 6 year old and my 4 year old and I told them we needed to say a prayer and ask Heavenly Father to help us find it. We said a simple prayer. Within 2 minutes my 6 year old said, we need to look behind the small couch. We argued that there was no way it could have gotten behind the loveseat, besides we had pulled out all the furniture and had looked behind and under everything. My 6 year old kept insisting that we needed to look again. We finally relented and looked behind the loveseat. Sure enough there was the part of the vacuum that was missing. This was a powerful teaching tool for both the children as well as a reminder for myself in the power of prayer. We encorporated this into our Family Home Evening lesson. Great day, great lesson. Isn't it amazing how simple it really is, just asking? I have the hardest time asking for things from HF, and yet, usually when I do, He shows me how much He loves me and my family. How wonderful that your children are learning the power of prayer early on-it will be an anchor to cling to as they get older and start to really get the onslaught of Satans hammering. Thank you for sharing your story-have a great uplifting week! ((hugs)) lynn k

That was an awesome story, Melody. What a wonderful teaching experience. I had something happen a couple of years ago that was so strange. We had just gotten a little kitten and she went up one of our very biggest trees! Of course I called the fire department!! They came and got her down. The next day I let her out of the house thinking she would never do that again, and lo and behold up the VERY biggest tree we had. Now let me tell you, this tree is monstrous, and she had been in it all day! She got in it in the morning, we went to a movie, went to dinner, hoping she would have gotten down, and when we came back she was still there. I didn't want to call the fire department, so I was just sitting on our bench looking at her. My husband came out of the house and I said, what are we going to do. He said (he's a non member remember) why don't you pray to HF. And I though, hmmm, silly thing to pray about, but I did. I prayed that Mimi would have the strength and knowledge to figure out how to get down the tree and that she would be unhamed. I am telling you, I no more than opened my eyes and she started backing down the tree. I thought it was such a sweet answer to my prayers I shared it with my grandkids. I think they thought I was nuts!!! donna

This just shows how much HF does care about the little things that means so much to us. He want to know all of what is going on. Just like a Dad here. I just love my prayer time. I hope every one had a great Easter. Love Saralan
