Hello Fellow Mormons
Well I think I have posted on here once but I do come back once in a while to check out the other postings. I live in Chandler, AZ. and I just had my surgery on June 22, 2005. I have lost a total of 44 lbs so far...Yippie for me
All I have to say is that I goofed this last Thursday and had about a handful of salted peanuts because I wanted something salty and crunchy so bad and boy did I pay for it. I spent 2 days in the bathroom.....and I don't think I have ever said so many prayers. I was doing so good on my soft foods but I am getting so sick of eating cottage cheese, yogurt and refried beans....I go back on Monday to see the doctor and the dietician and I hope and pray she will add more food to my diet. Let me know if anyone else had these kinds of issues....
I ate salted peanuts when I was only about 3 weeks out. I, too, got tired of pureed foods. I figured if I chewed well enough it was the same as being pureed. I even did it with popcorn.
I don't know what's causing the diarhea unless it's the oil in the peanuts. Maybe your new body can't handle to oils yet.
Good luck.

The loose stools...I had that for the first 2 months non stop after my surgery. My surgeon and his coordinator both said "Gala, think about what you are eating...liquid". So....that was that.
Now I'm 1 yr pos op and same thing is happening again. So no real advice there.
As for having peanuts - I was told absolutely not for the first 6 months. Now they are a vital part of my 'snacks' for protein.
If you want crunch - wheat thins with some cheese worked great for me. Now a good friend of mine whose surgyer was day before yours is doing the same thing. About 4-5 wheat thins a day w/cheese or peanut butter on them.
Good luck. Gala
Hello There,
I have not had to much of a problem with loose stools unless I eat something I am not suppost to. I only had to be on liquid for the first 5 days and then she put me on soft foods, no puree. I eat cottage cheese, yougurt, refried beans with cheese, eggs, tuna, turkey...etc. I just cannot wait until Monday when I go back and see the doctor and the dietician. If the dietician does not add food to my diet I think I will have to take her down. I just might have to be a little grumpy ;o)
Well it is time for bed...Christina
Hi, I am about 6 weeks out, and the doc gave me the go ahead for "normal" foods, but to eat very, very small bites. Anyway, I was already doing that before this visit, because I, too, got tired of the cottage cheese and pureed crap! You have to remember that everyone's system adjusts differently, so you are going to find out the hard way whether or not a food agrees with your new stomach or not. I have been craving salt, too, and it seems that popcorn is the only thing I can handle for now where that is concerned.
I had been living on sugar free popsicles, water, chicken noodle soup, and applesauce-- so I do get bored. I tried tomato soup with a little cheese in it, and it went right through me. Don't know why. But I do know I won't eat it for a while (nor cheese! yuck)
I have a sister who had this about 3 years ago, so she has mentioned that you just have to try maybe one new thing, se how it goes, and if you like it... then there you go.
Fatty foods as well as sugar can go right through you and cause the "loosness" while possible at the same time cause dumping. None of those are pleasant, but they are actually what's teaching our minds a new behavior-- a, hopefully, better behavior. And, when you've run outta answers, ask your surgeon, or like you said, your nutrionist. I hope things work out better for you!
