Ginger, Don't worry about shocking people. The toughest thing is to learn to be comfortable in your new ever changing body. Although I do enjoy the aninonimaity from time to time. I makes me feel like I have really achieved someting. So, continue to work on your self-esteem and the rest will follow. Don't put too much emphasis on it. I have a self-esteem issue as well, but, my husband and my son and my daughter keep me up enough that I can rebuild my own self worth. It will come so don't ru**** Like learning the gospel, it comes line upon line, precept on precept. Donna

Ginger, I have been assistant librarian for several years. I told the Librarian and she told everyone else in the ward. Not only that, but since I had the Duodenal Switch (DS), she has educated herself on the different types of wls and explains to everyone why I can eat differently than those who have had the RNY gastric bypass. (DS patients don't dump on sugars and can drink with meals because of the preservation of the pyloric valve) At work, it's no secret either and one of the top managers has asked me about the DS. (His wife seems to think wls would be a good idea for him). With the prevalence of wls these days, as soon as you stop dropping pounds, people will start wondering anyway. Laurie

Yes, Laurie, You are right. In the end.. does it really matter who told who? People are people...they will talk. Especially after you lose huge amounts of weight. There will always be people in the ward or otherwise, who will think we took the "easy way out" so far from the truth!! I usually talk about it to whoever will listen. HugsGinger

Who did I tell? Absolutely everybody in my ward. They have been nothing but supportive. I've been less apt to tell acquaintances that I'm not real close to. Many of them will come up to me and say something like - Wow you've really lost a lot of weight. How did you do it? My response is always "Working hard at it". I don't feel the desire or the need to tell something so personal to people I'm not real personal with. The ward is different. They are family. Everyone in my ward knows - exept maybe the new ones that are just moving in. They never knew the morbidly obese Melody so I choose to let them think I've always been thin. Melody
