I attended the young women's general broadcast with my daughter on Saturday night 3-25-2006. 15 minutes after the broadcast began, we lost all the power in not only our town but multiple counties in our state of Idaho. Unbeknownst to us in the chapel, there was a HUGE storm going on outside. A storm with heavy rain, horrendous winds, even some snow. Those of us inside the chapel watching the broadcast, had no idea of the conditions outside. We thought that maybe the power outage was a temporary condition and the broadcast would resume momentarily. Remember this broadcast was for teenage girls and their mothers. Being in a pitch black chapel didn't necessarily mean they could maintain reverence. I got the inspiration to start singing. I turned to another mother next to me and we started singing "I am a child of God". Soon all the girls joined in. When we finished, someone else started a new song. Most of the songs we sang were primary hymns but there were a few ward hymns as well. There was a couple times I was quiet so I could just listen to the beautiful voices in the dark. It sounded like what I imagined the angels in heaven's singing must sound like. It was absolutely the most spiritual and beautiful experience we could have had. The time went very quickly until someone with a lighted watch told us the time. It was after the broadcast was scheduled to be over. Even if the power was restored the broadcast would have ended. We had a closing prayer and everyone went home. We may have missed the broadcast but we certainly didn't miss the spirit. It was priceless. Just as a sidenote - the power was out for 11 hours. The storm which we missed because we were inside was that bad. The spirit inside the chapel was that good. Melody

Melody, I want to thank you for your post. You always have such awe-inspiring thoughts. I really love to read your words and look forward to hearing from you. You have such a sweet spirit and kind, caring attitude. You have made my morning radient with the thought of a room full of women, young and old(er) sitting in the dark singing with all their hearts. When we focus on the love of the Lord, we can survive any storm whether it be physical like the storm that passed over you, or spiritual like those that we all live through everyday. Please know that your thoughts are read, heard and appreciated every time. May God bless you today and everyday, Melody! Brenda
