New calling in the ward

I've received a new calling in the ward. I am now the Temple coordinator. I have a list of current temple recommend holders in our ward. It is my position to call each member and remind them of upcoming ward/stake temple days and then ask if they need a ride or have room in their vehicle to take someone else with them. The bisho***** gave me permission to put a reminder in the ward bulletin each week about upcoming fill the temple days. The same reminder week after week gets boring and ignored. I'm trying to come up with some clever things to say each week i.e. Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, are you taking someone to the temple with you? We've got quite a few (myself included) members in the ward where there is only one temple recommend holder in the household. No one likes to drive the two hour drive one way to the temple by themselves. This results in several people not going to the temple that would have gladly gone if they just had a ride. My question to the clever and good folks on this board - Can you give me any quick and cute ideas to go in the ward bulletin to keep people aware and match up those that need rides with those that have room. Thank you, Melody

Thank you Kaye for your kind words. Many, many thanks for the ride to our support group each month. As far as my church calling goes to be the temple coordinator, I got permission from our Bishop to put something in the ward bulletin each week. Since our next "fill the temple" day is June 28th, that's the day I'm focusing on right now. Since it gets boring and people tend to ignore items that are in the ward bulletin more than one week, I thought I would shake things up a bit. Here's what I have so far - A different One of these will go into the ward bulletin each week. - Eeenie, Meenie, Meiny Mo, If you're going to the temple, let us know - Roses are Red, Violets are blue, Are you taking a rider to the temple with you? - The time is now, it's going fast. A trip to the temple is what we ask. - Joy is going to the temple with a full car. - I love to see the Temple, I'll go inside one someday (if only I had a ride to help me on my way.) - Who's riding with you to the temple one the 28th? - Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-cake baker's man, go the temple as often as you can. - Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, filling the temple is really slick. - This little piggy went to the market, This little piggy stayed home - because he didn't have a ride to the temple. Corny I know, but maybe it will get people thinking about going to the temple and giving a ride to someone who otherwise wouldn't get to go. Melody

Hello, Melanie, I can't help you other than to say that we used to remind folks at the beginning of Relief Society and Priesthood. That seemed to help folks remember. Our temple has been open since May and I work there on Fridays. We were told that attendance would be strong for a few months and then start tapering off. This has not happened. It is very difficult to get into a session and there are waiting lists for almost every one. This is good. However, as the Family History Consultant for our ward, it is VERY difficult to get folks to take their own names! Makes me crazy! And our ward has a reputation for being the best about FH in our stake. (Not because of me, it has been thus for longer than my stint as FHC) What concerns me is that if our ward does better than the others, and I know our folks aren't doing as much as they should, what are the others doing? I am at my wits end and very frazzled about it. So, there are concerns about both sides of the temple coin. The attendence and the work for the people to do. Both can be very frustrating I guess. Sheesh, can't seem to win and I guess maybe callings aren't meant to be easy! (Not trying to minimize your frustration. Just commiserating with you.) When you get your own temple, though, it should get easier to get folks to go. It is easier to find a couple hours than it is to find several in a week. I love going and live 11 miles from the temple. First time I have ever lived closer than a 4 hour drive. Now I find myself envying those that live down the street. When I catch those thoughts running through my mind, I laugh at myself and just revel in my blessing of being a 20-30 minute drive. lol Take care, Grins, Kaye
