Topic: Questions for Saturday
Okay, I'd like to know you all better, so I'll give a try at asking questions today......
1. What was the last thing someone did for you that really touched your heart?
2. If your home burned to the ground, and your loved ones and pets all got out safe....what ONE object would you most want to save from fire.
You only get one item.
3. If you have had your surgery, have you picked an item of 'fat' clothing to keep and always recall your size...what is it? If you are pre-op, do you have one in mind?
4. What gospel principle brings you the most joy?
Okay, here's my answers:
1. What was the last thing someone did for you that really touched your heart? They told me I was doing a great job teaching in my new job (I am teaching nursing assistants to prepare for the state exam) and that I'm the first teacher who has taught to LOVE the patients.....the skills come easier if you love someone. I needed to hear that support at the time, I was filled with self doubts......
2. If your home burned to the ground, and your loved ones and pets all got out safe....what ONE object would you most want to save from fire.
You only get one item. I would want my computer CD holder...it's got all our photos on CD's.....
3. If you have had your surgery, have you picked an item of 'fat' clothing to keep and always recall your size...what is it? If you are pre-op, do you have one in mind? I kept my jeans.....I stretched those babies out until they were begging for mercy....size 24, but I know I was really into a 26.
4. What gospel principle brings you the most joy? The idea of being sealed to my family is my main hand hold to the gospel. I can't imagine existing without them. The idea that we can become as Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother is wonderful....I want to design flowers if I make it that high up...
Topic: RE: OK I will take the initiative - Friday questions
Thanks for the questions.
1. If it was 1 million I would pay off all our bills and get more suitable house so dh can fully retire. (Nothing big or ostentatious. Just a simple place for DH and I to be happy in our retirement) I would help my children with their NEEDS (not extras, they can earn them themselves) Start education funds for my 24 grandchildren and then look to the rest of my family. I have 2 sisters who are struggling single moms that could use some help.
2. I honestly don't know. I do have nice eyes but wear glasses so they look small.
3. My upper arms
4. I have many! Kaye is my nickname as I am Katherine. I would love to go by that but invariably people shorten it to Kathy and I hate that. I was named after my aunt Kay and am proud of that fact so have gone by Kaye for years. Some call me Sue (middle name) and some even Sam. When I was little, (about 4) I had long blond curls, one afternoon, my uncle took me out for the afternoon. For some reason he got me a boys haircut so the folks at church started calling me Sam. (It is a wonder he survived my mothers wrath! lol)
5. I was not a member when I was a teenager. I was raised Pentacostal.
I want to start Institute, though.
Great questions!
Grins,
Kaye
Topic: RE: Thursday Morning Questions for the day
1. If you could have any job for one day just to see what it was like
what would it be? I would be a mortician and observe an autopsy....I was offered an apprenticeship a year ago, but my hubby really vetoed it, it totally creeped him out......haha
2. If you could go anywhere in the world for vacation where would it be.
Italy, Italy, Italy.....my previous stepkids all went there for their missions, and as I studied it I fell in love......we plan to go there after the kids grow up, but my husband is thinking a 2 week trip...I recently told him he's welcome to return in 2 weeks....but I plan to rent a villa and stay 3 months, until I'm good and ready to call it quits. He said, "oh, there's no way I'll leave you surrounded by a bunch of handsome Italians...." haha
3. If you could speak to any Prophet who would it be and why.
My first reaction was Pres. Kimball.....but I would love to speak to Joseph Smith, or actually, I would love to speak to Emma, and know her better.
I think she's rarely given the credit she deserves for all the support and trials she endured to her husband.
4. If you could choose the century you lived in what would you choose.
Though I am facinated with pioneer lore, I would hate to live it. What hardships. I like living now.....it's very facinating, and women have every opportunity to do and be what we want. We are allowed an education, unheard of in most cultures, and in few points of history.
5. What scripture comes to your mind when you need it the most...whats your favorite scripture.
Judge not.....lest ye be judged......
Topic: RE: Hello and Question
Billie,
Welcome!!!
There wasn't a problem for me. However, you know your ward.
There isn't really any reason that you would have to tell anyone what you are having done. A simple "GI problems", would be a sufficient answer. Before I had mine, I just told my family that I was having abdominal surgery and talking about it made me more nervous about everything.
Take care and come back daily or as often as you can.
Grins,
Kaye
Topic: RE: Hello and Question
I told anyone who would stand still long enough to get the sentence out of my mouth....haha....but I'm very open and talkative on a normal day.
Part of why I tell everyone is because I want to share information, and teach others what I've learned, and help them understand this is an option for morbidly obese (MO) people.
As for the band....I am rny , but my dear pal had a band the same day I did.
She doesn't have much weight to lose, as I have 150 to lose.....but she lost 37 lbs very quickly, then it slowed, so she went in and had the band inflated and began to lose again. She is very pleased with it. BUT she didn't have alot of weight to get off....she is doing it more to control her diabites.
As for your friends with complications.....I think the more you lurk and read, you will find HUNDREDS of people without any complications at all, and even those that do have them, most are still very pleased with their decision and results. Some aren't. But I honestly believe the greater percentage are pleased with it. I haven't had any problems other than those I create by overeating, or eating too fast, or that sort of thing.
Research your doctor, find a good support group....and keep looking until you get one you are comfortable in. Make a buddy here and it will make all the difference. And if you decide NOT to proceed with the surgery, you are still very welcome to lurk and post here. There are many members of this site who are not post-op, and they still have alot of experience with being MO and it's ramifications. I see people apologize for deciding not to have surgery...and I wonder why they apologize.....because it's such a personal decision.
I'm almost 3 months out and I've lost 53 lbs.......and I'm thrilled.
I'm not a fast loser, but it's the best I've ever done in my life for weight loss. I feel so much better, my knees don't hurt, my clothes aren't squeezing my waist to death, and I was recently told, "You are so happy lately;..." and I know it's because I don't hurt anymore.
Best to you. Tracey

1. If you won a million dollars today what would you do with it?
I would put it in a high interest account and live off the interest....
but realistically I would build us a house...we live in a dump of a double wide on 4 beautiful acres of woodland...but our house is gross. I dream of a new home someday.
2. What is your best feature? My eyes if I have makeup on....I get constant comments on them. But I think my silly spirit is my best feature...I keep myself very amused most of the time.
3. What feature would you most like to improve on? I wish I spent more time developing my talents, and that I could play the piano. However, I'm not disciplined enough to practice like it takes to get where I wish to be.
4. Do you have a nic name? If so how did you get it? I have several.
Kevin called me Tracemer (mix of my first and last name) and that has stuck for most of the time, but our secret name for me is Succubuss.....because I lured him in and sucked the life force out of him....(see: Siren in folklore)
5. Did you go to Seminary as a high school student? No, my family was inactive and I didn't attend a single day of seminary. My loss.
Topic: RE: Hello and Question
Hi Kristy and everyone else.
I am new to this group and am also looking into the surgery. I am hoping to start chatting with you all on this site.
I also have the question of reactions from your wards... This is something I am really worried about. I have all of the feelings of failure going on and am really worried about "what people think". I know it is dumb, what do they think now? Will they think I am a cop out??? Another lady in our ward had it right before she moved into our ward, so no one really was too aware of her surgery.
Anyway, I have read lots of the posts from you guys and am ready to be a part of this group.
I'll look forward to posting again.
Take care,
Billie

Dear Kristi,
Welcome! We are trying to up the participation on this forum and hope you will join us often.
I had RNY so can't help much with the lap band. They won't do it here.
There is a fellow , in our ward, who had it and has done well but can't lose after a few months.
My complications have really been tough but they are not due to the RNY part of my surgery. I had to have a gastrectomy, due to excessive scar tissue, and there was not enough left to make a proper size pouch. So my problems with strictures are really not due to the RNY part of my surgery. The RNY is doing well.
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I am doing things I haven't done in decades.
Most people in my ward know about the surgery and have been very supportive.
Everybody has to do what they are most comfortable with. Good luck with your decisions. Prayer helps a lot.
Take care and please join us often.
Grins,
Kaye

1. If you won a million dollars today what would you do with it?
A million dollars isn't enough money to do with it what I fantasize about. First and foremost I would pay my tithing and fast offerings out of it so it would go further.
Some of the things that I fantasize about it money was no object -
- our school needs money to add on and modernize. I would need at least a couple million for that.
- our little, itty bitty, tiny county needs a new courthouse really, really bad and I would need at least 3 million for that.
- our little, itty bitty, tiny town needs a new sewer system. I would only need $300-$400 for that.
- My son and my daughter both had to drop out of college this year because of finances so I would make sure there was a college fund set up for my children.
I'm a woman with very little needs so I wouldn't spend much on myself. Probably pay off my parents home and our home and maybe get a dependable vehicle (our cars are more than 15 years old).
So you see, a million dollars wouldn't be near enough.
2. What is your best feature?
This one is easy. It's my smile. I smile all the time. I have strangers comment that they like my smile.
3. What feature would you most like to improve on?
I would like to improve on my FAT, FAT legs. I carry most my weight in my legs. Unfortunately, short of a leg transplant, I was born with and will live with fat legs my whole life.
4. Do you have a nic name? If so how did you get it?
I really don't have a nic name. Some friends and family call me "Mel" but I really would prefer they didn't.
5. Did you go to Seminary as a high school student?
I went to early morning Seminary all through high school. Great experience.
Melody
